What are the characteristics of normal vaginal discharge?

What are the characteristics of abnormal vaginal discharge that you should be aware of?

However, it's a good idea to check with your doctor if the discharge is accompanied by symptoms such as vaginal pain, color is not white, and smells bad. This condition is commonly known as pathological vaginal discharge.

Here are some of the characteristics and symptoms of abnormal vaginal discharge:

Discharge that is brown and bloody, usually accompanied by pelvic pain and irregular menstrual schedule.
Whitish discharge that comes out is cloudy like gray or yellowish, which can indicate a sexually transmitted disease such as gonorrhea. This condition is sometimes accompanied by pain in the pelvis and when you urinate.
If your vaginal discharge comes out in large quantities and is accompanied by a swollen vagina, pain around the vulva, and itching, it can be caused by a vaginal yeast infection.
Meanwhile, if your vaginal discharge is white, gray, or yellow with a fishy or sour aroma, it can be caused by bacterial vaginosis. Sometimes this condition is also accompanied by itching and redness in the vaginal area.

How to deal with this abnormal vaginal discharge?

If you experience abnormal vaginal discharge, it's a good idea to ask and consult a doctor first. Later the doctor will detect your vaginal health history. Leucorrhoea is basically treated depending on the root of the problem.

For example, yeast infection is usually treated with an antifungal medication that is applied into the vagina in the form of a cream or gel. While vaginal discharge caused by bacterial vaginosis is treated with antibiotic pills or creams. Examples such as trichomoniasis bacteria are usually treated with metronidazole or tinidazole drugs.

However, you can do remedies and prevention at home to treat abnormal vaginal discharge in the following ways:

Use a special feminine antiseptic solution containing povidone - iodine during menstruation to clean the outside of the vagina, to prevent abnormal vaginal discharge afterwards.
Use a condom if you have sex a week after starting treatment, or wait a week before having sex. This prevents the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases.
Clean the vagina and don't forget to make sure the vagina and groin area to keep it dry, avoid moisture.
Always wash from front to back to prevent bacteria from entering the vagina.
Use underwear that is made of 100% cotton and avoid wearing pants that are too tight.
