Scaly skin can look like small flakes or a reddish rash on the skin.
Prevents scaly skin caused by too dry
To prevent scaly skin due to dry skin, there are several things you can do, namely:
1. Use a moisturizer
Moisturizer or skin moisturizer is able to restore keratin protein, which is the basic building block for skin to keep it moist, smooth, and healthy. Moisturizers can prevent dry skin that can cause scaly skin by holding water and moisture against your skin.
2. Use sunscreen
If it's moisturizing used to keep skin moist, then sunscreen or sunscreen used to protect the skin from sun exposure. Sunburned skin often feels sore, because the skin becomes scaly, reddish in color, and often peels off.
Therefore, use sunscreen, at least SPF 30, regularly when you are doing outdoor activities to prevent skin damage due to sun exposure.
3. Use additional protection from the sun
Even though you have used sunscreen to protect your skin, it's also a good idea to keep wearing protective clothing, especially during extreme weather, whether it's too hot or cold. Without your realizing it, wind and cold weather can also reduce the natural moisture in the skin, thus making your skin appear dry. Therefore, use protective clothing such as glasses, gloves, hats, shoes, or scarves.
4. Increase the consumption of water
The layers of your skin are mostly composed of water, so skin needs plenty of water to stay optimally hydrated. Skin that is not properly hydrated will feel dry and rough, and cause scaly skin. You can meet your body's water needs by consuming at least eight glasses of water a day or by consuming fruits and vegetables.
5. Increase consumption of fruits and vegetables
If you want to maintain healthy skin, then you also have to pay attention to what you consume. Foods high in carbohydrates and unhealthy fats are known to increase the risk of skin aging. Meanwhile, foods rich in antioxidants are known to protect the skin and reduce skin inflammation.
Some foods that are recommended for consumption are fruits and vegetables, such as green leafy vegetables, tomatoes, blueberries, nuts, and avocado. You are also advised to eat fish, especially those that are high in antioxidants, such as salmon.
6. Bathing regularly, but not too often
The simple thing you can do to prevent scaly skin is to bathe regularly twice a day. However, even though bathing is good for skin health, it is not recommended that you shower too often because it can actually strip your skin of natural oils, making the skin dry.
It is preferable to take a cold shower, as hot water can dry out the skin faster. Scrubbing or scrubbing too hard can also dry out the skin, so it is recommended that you wipe your body with a towel, not scrubbing hard.
According to hse.gov.uk, there are several approaches that can be taken to prevent skin damage that can cause scaly skin, namely:

- Protect skin from sun exposure with a moisturizer / sunscreen / protective clothing.
- If you experience complaints such as the appearance of a reddish rash on the skin, itchy, dry, or rough skin, you are advised to consult a dermatologist to find out the cause and get the right treatment.
