Therefore, a vegan should avoid not only meat, but also milk, eggs, and animal-based ingredients. These include gelatin, honey, carmine, pepsin, shellac, albumin, whey, casein and some forms of vitamin D3.

Which is healthy between vegans and vegetarians?

Vegans and vegetarians will certainly be beneficial for health because the lifestyle of both requires you to consume more vegetables and fruits.

According to reports from Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics as well as some scientific reviews, adopting a vegan or vegetarian lifestyle is considered suitable at all stages of life, as long as the diet is well planned.

It is difficult to say which of the two is healthier because both have their respective advantages and disadvantages.

For example, unlike vegans, lacto-vegetarians get their intake of calcium, phosphorus, and vitamin D from dairy products. Meanwhile, when avoiding dairy products and eggs, a vegan can more easily control cholesterol levels.

Nonetheless, most of the studies so far have been observational. This shows that it is difficult to decide with certainty which aspect of the vegan lifestyle is producing these benefits or confirm that it is veganism that is the determining factor.
