Adults: Combined with cilastatin: (as anhydrous imipenem) 1-2 g daily divided doses every 6-8 hours, given by IV infusion. Doses of 250-500 mg infused for up to 20-30 minutes, and doses of 750 mg or 1 g for up to 40-60 minutes. Maximum: 4 g / day or 50 mg / kg.
Intravenous
Surgical prophylaxis infection
Adults: 1 g can be given during induction of anesthesia, followed by 1 g the next 3 hours, with an additional 500 mg dose 8-16 hours after induction if needed.
