What is green coffee?
Green coffee or green coffee is actually the same as other coffee beans, but what distinguishes it is the green color. Coffee beans can be green because they don't go through the roasting process like other coffee beans - which then turns their color brown. So what makes green coffee considered to be able to lose weight?
Basically, all coffee beans have antioxidants, namely chlorogenic acid. However, the process of roasting coffee beans, which is usually done, can actually reduce the amount of chlorogenic substances in the coffee beans. So, in most coffee beans - which go through the roasting process - the amount of chlorogenic acid is low. Meanwhile, green coffee does not go through the roasting process so the amount of chlorogenic acid is still high. Chlorogenic acid is said to have health benefits, including for weight loss.

The benefits of green coffee for the diet have been proven in several studies. One of them is a study conducted by the American Chemical Society in 2012. In this study, respondents who were overweight (obese and overweight) then asked to consume green coffee for 22 weeks. Then at the end of the study it was found that there was a decrease in body weight and fat levels in the respondent's body.
The average weight loss that occurred was 7 kg and total body fat was reduced by 16%. Even so, there is still no scientific explanation that explains the chlorogenic acid that green coffee has with the weight loss process. In addition, studies examining the benefits of green coffee for the diet are still very few and only carried out for a short duration so it is not known what the long-term effects are.
