2. The medicine in the IVF program makes the mother feel tired
IVF program uses special drugs that can support fertility. These drugs work by increasing the amount of certain hormones that aid in the maturation and release of eggs (ovulation).
Anything that affects your hormones will have side effects, including fertility drugs. Common side effects include flatulence, nausea, sensitive breasts, headaches, changes mood, and changes in appetite.
The process of stimulating ovulation can also leave the body feeling sluggish and tired. That is why mothers are advised to reduce activities that can cause fatigue during IVF.
Physical activity for women undergoing IVF program
Even though you need to limit some physical activity while undergoing IVF, that doesn't mean you can just lie down at home. Physical activity interspersed with rest is an important combination for a fit body.
Dr. Aimee Eyvazzadeh, a reproductive endocrinologist, advised mothers to continue to do physical activity with light intensity. Activities like this are useful for maintaining body weight, managing stress, and balancing hormones.
When undergoing the IVF program, so that mothers are not tired and can still move actively, there are several physical activities that can be done, including:
- Aerobic sports such as walking, cycling, jogging, and swim for 30 minutes. Do this 5 times a week.
- Light exercise to strengthen muscles such as exercise dumbbell. Do it 2 days a week.
- Movements to strengthen the pelvic muscles, for example squat.
- Yoga and meditation.
- Daily homework.
Even though the above activities are classified as safe, it is highly recommended that you consult with your doctor first. Consultation is useful so that the mother-to-be knows with certainty whether this activity has the potential to cause fatigue and is safe to do while undergoing the IVF program or not.
Mothers also need to understand that maintaining body energy is not only done by avoiding strenuous activities. The intake of foods rich in carbohydrates, nutrients and fats also has an important role as a contributor to energy.
