What is the drug Buscopan used for?

Buscopan is a medication used to treat abdominal pain and cramps.

Buscopan contains hyoscine butylbromide which is an antispasmodic drug, which is a muscle cramp reliever drug.

The way the hyoscine butylbromide in Buscopan works is to help reduce the movement of the muscles in the digestive tract and urinary tract.

This drug is able to overcome several health problems such as:

Relieves symptoms irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), like treating stomach cramps, treats diarrhea that is persistent.
Overcoming cramps in the urinary tract.
Overcoming stomach cramps that can occur due to various health conditions, such as stomach cramps due to menstruation.

This medicine is usually given by prescription. However, you can also get it without a doctor's prescription. Make sure you adjust to the symptoms that the doctor has diagnosed.

What are the rules for using Buscopan?

This drug is available in tablet and injection (injection) form. Buscopan injection is usually only given by a doctor or medical team in a hospital.

Buscopan tablets are available in 1 pack of 20 tablets that are available over-the-counter in pharmacies. Each tablet contains 10 mg of hyoscine butylbromide.

There is also 1 pack containing 100 tablets. However, these preparations can only be obtained through a doctor's prescription.

Apart from hyoscine butylbromide, Buscopan also contains:

Adults who experience stomach cramps can take 2 tablets of this medicine. You can drink it 4 times a day.

Buscopan for IBS (Buscopan IBS Relief)

For IBS symptoms, it is recommended that you take 1 tablet of Buscopan, 3 times a day.

What is the Buscopan dosage for children?

Here are the dosages and the rules for taking Buscopan for children:

Buscopan for stomach cramps

For children over 12 years: 2 tablets x 4 times a day. This means that every time you drink, 2 tablets and drink it 4 times a day.

For children aged 6-12 years: 1 tablet x 3 times a day. This means that every time you take medicine, 1 Buscopan tablet and taken 3 times a day.

Buscopan IBS Relief

For children 12 years of age and over who experience symptoms of IBS, the recommended dose is 1 tablet 3 times a day.

Buscopan for stomach cramps is not recommended for children under 6 years of age because it can cause serious side effects.

Side effects

What are the possible side effects?
