Contraception is a method used to prevent pregnancy and protect against sexually transmitted infections. There are many choices of contraceptive methods that you can use, but there are some contraceptive methods that are the most common or widely used in Indonesia.

The most widely used contraceptive method

Among the many contraceptive options, there are actually five types of methods that are most widely used. especially by women in Indonesia. Check out the following explanation, yes.

1. Condoms

One of the most commonly used contraceptive methods is the use of condoms. There are two types of condoms that you can choose from, namely male condoms and female condoms. As the name implies, male condoms are used by men on their penis. Meanwhile, female condoms, also known as dental dams, are used in the vagina.

This contraceptive method, which is used only during sex, is made of latex which is very thin, and is designed to prevent sperm from entering your uterus and fertilizing an egg. If you put a condom in properly, this method of contraception has an effectiveness rate of up to 98 percent.

Plus, according to the Center of Disease Control and Prevention, condoms don't just help you prevent pregnancy. This contraceptive can also protect you from sexually transmitted diseases. As long as you use it properly and don't make a mistake when using a condom, you can get the most of its benefits.

2. Combination birth control pills

There are several types of birth control pills that you can use as a contraceptive method. However, in addition to condoms, a contraceptive method that is also widely used to prevent pregnancy is the combined birth control pill. Called combination birth control pills, these contraceptive pills contain synthetic hormones such as estrogen and progesterone which are naturally produced in a woman's ovaries.

This contraceptive method in the form of hormonal pills will prevent the ovaries from releasing eggs (ovulation) as well as make it difficult for sperm to reach the eggs. Combined birth control pills can also make it harder for an egg to stick to the uterine wall.

As long as birth control pills are taken according to the rules, they have a 99% effectiveness rate in helping you delay pregnancy. Therefore, avoid mistakes taking birth control pills that you might do. One of them is forgetting to take birth control pills.

You need to use birth control pills every day for 21 days and stop for seven days. You may have your period afterward. After seven days, you must take the birth control pill again. Your risk of experiencing pregnancy will be higher if you do not comply with these rules of use.

However, you also need to pay attention to the side effects of birth control pills that you may experience. You don't need to worry because birth control pills don't have a special impact on your weight changes. In fact, birth control pills also have several other health benefits that you may experience when using them.

One of them is that birth control pills can be used to treat acne and help reduce PMS symptoms. Unfortunately, the use of this contraceptive method is not recommended for smoking women aged 35 years and over. If you are in this group, it is better to consult with your doctor first.

3. KB spiral

Another method that is also widely used is the IUD or spiral birth control. IUD which stands forintrauterine device it has two types, namely the copper IUD and the hormonal IUD. The IUD is a contraceptive made of plastic and is shaped like a T letter.

This contraceptive method is used by inserting it into the uterus through the vagina. The copper IUD releases copper as a pessary. Meanwhile, the hormonal IUD will release synthetic progestin hormones by thickening the cervical mucus to make it difficult for incoming sperm cells to swim and reach the eggs.

In addition, this contraceptive method also thins the uterine wall while preventing ovulation. You can use the IUD or spiral birth control as a contraceptive method because of their high effectiveness. Not only that, this method is also relatively easy to do. The reason is, you don't need to remember its use every day. You only need to put it in once and it will protect you from pregnancy for about five years.

You only need to check whether the KB IUD you are using is shifted position or not. To do this, you can periodically check the position of the IUD thread. The reason is, if the position changes in the uterus, you may experience a lump even though you have used the IUD. In fact, you also need to be careful because there are times when the IUD comes off on its own.

4. Injectable birth control

There is another contraceptive method that is also widely used, namely the birth control injection which is classified as a hormonal contraceptive method. This method of contraception is injected into your body and contains hormones. If the 3-month contraceptive injection contains the progestin hormone, the 1-month contraceptive injection contains a mixture of progestin and estrogen hormones.

This contraceptive method prevents pregnancy by preventing ovulation. This means that the ovaries do not release an egg. If there is no egg in the fallopian tube, pregnancy is almost impossible.

This method also works by thickening cervical mucus. When cervical mucus thickens, sperm cells cannot go deeper into the uterus, and fertilization cannot occur.

5. Natural birth control

There is also a contraceptive method that does not require equipment, namely natural family planning. There are actually several ways if you want to use this method as a way to prevent pregnancy. This method is relatively easy because you don't need to use any tools to use natural contraceptive methods.

You just need to focus on what you are doing. For example, you can interrupt intercourse as one of the methods you use. Intercourse is interrupted ejaculation outside the vagina, so that you do not release sperm while your penis is still in the partner's vagina.

Unfortunately, you need to be very careful and concentrated when you do it. If not, there could be fluid accidentally escaping from the penis containing sperm cells.

Apart from interrupted intercourse, you can also achieve this method with a family planning calendar by calculating the fertile period. If you can accurately mark when you are fertile, you may be able to use this method to prevent pregnancy.

In addition, you can also use the Lactation Amenorrhea Method (MAL), which is natural birth control that occurs if you are exclusively breastfeeding your baby. This hormone production while breastfeeding will prevent the release of your eggs.
