An ingredient that needs to be avoided if you have oily skin
Before buying certain skin care products, it's a good idea to read and see clearly what ingredients are contained in them. Here are various ingredients to avoid when you have oily skin:
1. Mineral oil
Mineral oil is a derivative of petroleum or fossil fuels commonly referred to as petroleum. This oil has another name namely paraffin oil or petroleum oil. Meanwhile, pertolatum or petroleum jelly is a mineral oil derivative that has a denser structure like wax.
Mineral oil is basically suitable if you have very dry skin. However, if you have oily skin, you should avoid using this one ingredient because it will make your skin oilier. As a result, the pores on the face will become clogged, causing acne to get worse.
Instead, choose water-based products in the form of a light cream, gel, or lotion. Also, be sure to look for products with non-comedogenic writing on the packaging. Non-comedogenic means that the product won't clog your pores so it doesn't trigger breakouts.
2. Alcohol
Alcohol-based products such as toners can indeed remove excess oil on facial skin. However, these products can also sometimes make the skin very dry. As a result, the oil glands work harder to produce more oil to keep the skin soft.
As a result, this excess oil is then trapped in the face. Oil is one of the favorite places for bacteria. When your oily skin is filled with bacteria, it is not impossible that acne will thrive and irritate your face.
Therefore, try not to use various alcohol-based products. Instead, use a gentle cleanser like micellar water to clean your facial skin.
3. Coconut oil
Coconut oil does have many benefits, but it is not for oily skin. The reason is, coconut oil is one of the most comedogenic ingredients. This means that coconut oil can clog facial pores and cause blackheads that can lead to acne. For that, you should avoid facial skin care products that contain coconut oil.
4. Silicone
Silicone is widely used in products makeup like powder or foundation. Unfortunately, products that contain silicone only enhance your makeup. Conversely, silicone can close and clog the pores on your face.
An oily face with clogged pores makes it difficult for your skin to breathe. As a result, don't be surprised if you delete makeup, pimples will appear.
5. Parabens
Parabens are ingredients that are widely used in various care and beauty products. The use of this chemical compound has also basically been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the United States (which is the equivalent of BPOM in Indonesia) for use in shampoo, skin care products, and hair dyes.
However, it is feared that parabens can worsen acne, which usually affects people with oily skin. The reason is, parabens can mimic the hormone estrogen in the body. If this happens and the body's natural hormones are affected, it is not impossible that your acne will get worse.
