What Drug Sodium Acetate?
What is sodium acetate for?
Sodium acetate in large-volume intravenous fluids is a drug with a function to prevent or improve hyponatremia in patients with restricted fluid intake; used to combat acidosis through conversion to bicarbonate.
The sodium acetate dosage and side effects of sodium acetate are detailed below.
How is sodium acetate used?
Must be diluted before being used as an infusion; interfering with hypertonic solution (> 154 mEqL) via central channel; maximum administration rate: 1 mEq / kg / hr.
How is sodium acetate stored?
This medication is best stored at room temperature, away from direct light and damp places. Don't keep it in the bathroom. Don't freeze it. Other brands of this drug may have different storage rules. Observe the storage instructions on the product package or ask your pharmacist. Keep all medicines away from children and pets.

Sodium Acetate Dosage
The information provided is not a substitute for medical advice. ALWAYS consult your doctor or pharmacist before starting treatment.
What is the sodium acetate dosage for adults?
Sodium acetate injection, USP (2 mEq / ml) is administered intravenously only after dilution in larger volume fluids. The dosage and level of administration depend on the individual needs of the patient. Serum sodium should be monitored as a guide for dosage. Using the aseptic technique, transfer the desired amount into another intravenous fluid to provide an adequate amount of sodium acetate in milliequivalents (mEq).
Injection of sodium acetate, USP (2mEq / ml) in large quantities in pharmacies designed for manual use, gravity flow operations and tools automated compounding to prepare a nutritious infusion mixture. The mixture should be stored in the refrigerator and used within 24 hours after compounding.
Parenteral medicinal products should be inspected visually for particulate matter and discoloration prior to administration. Do not use unless the solution looks clear and the seal is still closed. Throw away unused waste
What is the sodium acetate dosage for children?

In what dosage is sodium acetate available?
50 ml injection; 100 ml
Sodium Acetate side effects
What side effects can be experienced due to sodium acetate?
Excess sodium can occur by intravenous infusion of an excess sodium solution.
Warnings and Cautions for Sodium Acetate Drugs
What should be known before using sodium acetate?
Do not use unless the solution is clear and the seal is still closed. Throw away unused stuff. Sodium replacement therapy should be guided by serum sodium levels.
Care and attention is needed in providing sodium-containing solutions to patients with severe renal dysfunction, cirrhosis, heart failure, or other conditions. edematous or retain sodium in the body, as in patients with oliguria or anuria. More caution is also required when administering parenteral fluids, especially those containing sodium ions, to patients taking corticosteroids or corticotropins.
Solutions containing acetate ions must be used with caution as overuse can cause metabolic alkalosis.
