It works by slowing down the growth of the yeast that causes infection.

How is selenium sulfide used?

This medicine is for use on the skin only. Some brands need to be shaken before use. Check your product package to see if your brand needs to be shaken before using it. This medication is usually used once a day for 7 days to treat tinea versicolor, or use as directed by your doctor.

What is the selenium sulfide dosage for adults?

Normal Dosage for Adults with Seborrheic Dermatitis

Topical 2.25% Selenium sulfide shampoo: use twice a week until symptoms are controlled. Then weekly, every 2 weeks, every 3 to 4 weeks. Do not use it more often than necessary to control symptoms.

1.00% topical selenium sulfide shampoo: shake shampoo and rinse thoroughly. For best results, use regularly at least twice a week or as recommended by a doctor.

Selenium sulfide foam: apply to the affected areas, twice daily. Selenium sulfide foam should be rubbed into the skin until it is completely absorbed by the skin. Shake well and repeat the process for repeated use.
