The air temperature is getting hotter every day, making us sure not to forget to turn on the air conditioner. However, don't just use it. In order to maintain the quality of the air in your room, you need to know how to properly care for and clean the air conditioner. Well, instead of having to spend money to pay for mason services, there's nothing wrong with cleaning it yourself.
If you're confused about how to get started, the following guidelines might help.
Why does the air conditioner need to be cleaned regularly?
If not maintained regularly and thoroughly, air conditioning can become a den of germs and dust. Dirt and germs can then be spread back throughout the room so that it enters through the sense of smell.
So, if at that time your immune system is weak, then you will be more susceptible to contracting various diseases. These include chronic coughs, nasal congestion, wheezing, and eye irritation and wheezing.
On the other hand, dust that is allowed to continue to accumulate in the AC filter can also make the workload heavier. As a result, the AC cannot work optimally and can increase the electric power used. If you have this, be prepared to spend more money because the electricity bill is soaring.
Therefore, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the United States recommends that everyone who installs air conditioning should clean it regularly. This is also agreed by James Sublett, MD, former president of the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology on the Health page.
According to James, the filter (filter) should ideally be cleaned at least once a month. However, if the AC filter is considered to have filled with dust in less than a month, then it can be cleaned more frequently than that.
The right way to clean air conditioning
Before starting to clean, make sure the air conditioner is off. Then prepare a "combat tool" in the form of an used toothbrush, duster, vacuum cleaner (vacuum cleaner), rags, cleaning fluid, screwdriver, and water as needed. To be safer, don't forget to use a mouth mask and gloves.
After everything is ready, consider how to clean the following air conditioner:
- Open casing(cover) the air conditioner with a screwdriver slowly. When the lid is open, you will immediately see the AC filter.
- Check the filter for damage or not. If the filter tears, discard it and replace it with a new filter.
- Meanwhile, if there is no damage, the filter can be cleaned of accumulated dust by using an old toothbrush, brush, slightly damp cloth, or a vacuum cleaner.
- If possible, you can also remove the filter and soak it in a special washing solution to kill mold spores and other germs.
- While soaking, gently scrub the filter with an old toothbrush to clean it from stuck dirt.
- Place the filter in its original place when you feel it is clean and dry. Make sure all the components are properly reattached.
- After the inside of the air conditioner has been cleaned, the final step is to clean casing-using a clean, dry cloth.
- Make sure you clean up to the sidelines of the AC surface. Because, usually there is a lot of dirt stuck in there.
- Next, you can test it by turning on the air conditioner. If the air feels cold and fresh again, this means that the AC cleaning process is complete.
The AC section reviewed in this article is the unit that is in the room. Meanwhile, for AC machines that are outside, it should be cleaned by a professional to make it safer.
