Not a few pregnant women often complain of nausea and vomiting (morning sickness) in the early trimester of pregnancy. Even some of them experienced unusual vomiting while bleeding. How could that be? Is it still normal to vomit blood during pregnancy?
Why do mothers experience vomiting blood during pregnancy?
Vomiting blood during pregnancy, or what is called hematemesis, is a condition that is fairly common in early pregnancy. Apart from food, you will also bleed, which is generally dark brown or slightly blackish in color. At first glance, this vomit looks like coffee grounds.
But sometimes, the color of the blood in the vomit may be different depending on the cause. If it is caused by a sore in the esophagus (esophagus), the blood is usually a fresh red color. It's different if the blood comes from a wound in the digestive tract, then the color will appear darker to almost brownish.
Blood that comes out on its own or with food in vomit is generally caused by tearing of the lining of the esophagus. Too often vomiting, or even the urge to vomit that is too strong, can unconsciously injure the lining of the esophagus.
Another condition that causes vomiting during pregnancy is accompanied by blood, namely inflammation in the lining of the digestive tract due to a bacterial infection Heliobacter pylori. The infection can cause injury to the stomach, causing bleeding. If the mother vomits during pregnancy, the blood, which tends to brown, will come out.
In addition to infection, injury to the esophagus or stomach can occur as a side effect of taking pain relievers, such as ibuprofen, aspirin, or naproxen. These drugs trigger irritation in the digestive tract area, especially the stomach.
So, is it normal to experience this condition?
Although vomiting early in pregnancy is fairly normal, this is not the case with vomiting blood during pregnancy. This actually indicates something is wrong with the organs in your body. So, don't hesitate to check your health condition with your doctor.
The doctor will provide treatment according to the cause and condition you are experiencing. As much as possible, try to drink more water during pregnancy, to help restore an unhealthy body condition.
