Holding back urination is not good for health. Within 24 hours, the normal frequency of urination for healthy adults is 6-8. Then, what about the children? How many times is the frequency of urination in a day that is normal for young children? Is it normal for children to keep peeing?
The child keeps on peeing, is it normal?
The frequency of urination for each person in a day can be different from one another, including children.
Usually, as they get older, children tend to urinate less frequently than when they were babies or toddlers. This is related to the enlargement of the bladder with age. In newborns, the frequency of baby peeing can be repeated up to 6-8 times a day. Once they are grown, the child can pee back and forth about 6-7 times a day.
Apart from the age factor, how often the child pees will depend on the amount of physical activity done. The more active a child is in their daily activities, the more sweat will be released. This can make the child pee less frequently because excess body fluids have been wasted through sweat.
Meanwhile, the amount and type of drinks he consumes also affects the habits of children who keep peeing. The more water you drink, the more urine you will produce. In addition to plain water, several types of food or drinks can make children urinate continuously in one day, for example citrus fruits (oranges, lemons, grapefruit) and tomatoes - either in the form of fresh fruit or juice - and soft drinks.
Stress can also make children continue to pee.
When to go to the doctor
Various factors above can cause children to continue to pee. However, the things above are actually not dangerous. Back and forth pee usually lasts only 1-3 days and the rest will return to normal.
What you have to watch out for is if your child continues to urinate more than 10 times a day. This may signal symptoms of a urinary tract infection. Especially if he keeps peeing but not accompanied by consuming the same amount of fluids. Better to consult a doctor immediately.
Likewise, you must be vigilant if the child rarely pees. A frequency of urinating that is less frequent than usual may indicate that your little one is dehydrated. Dehydration can also be detected by the color of the child's urine. If the color is dark yellow, then your child is indeed dehydrated.
This condition of lack of fluids can usually be caused by other health problems, such as diarrhea, symptoms of nausea and vomiting, or is experiencing certain infectious diseases. Immediately consult a doctor for further treatment.
