Fat deposits are definitely a problem in themselves for our appearance and health, because everyone's dream is to have an ideal body. To get it, every effort is made to destroy body fat to the maximum, but sometimes the results are minimal. Ironically, stubborn fat keeps appearing, on our waist, on our back, on our stomach, and on our arms, even though diet and exercise are all-out.
With the development of medical science nowadays, there is a new method to destroy fat by cooling the fat process which is called "cryolipolysis". This method is labeled quite safe and effective. Recently the FDA has also approved the use of this "cryolipolysis" method for fat loss.
What is cryolipolysis?
Cryolipolysis is a method of breaking down fat by a cooling process. The idea was started by Harvard University scientists - Dieter Manstein, MD and R. Rox Anderson, MD - who observed that some children who ate popsicles developed dimples on their cheeks. Scientists realized that popsicles can freeze and remove the tiny pockets of fat cells on the cheeks. This is what underlies the idea that cold temperatures can destroy targeted fat cells without damaging the skin or surrounding tissue.
From the observations and results of research conducted by scientists, finally a method of destroying fat using cold temperatures emerged, or what is called "cryolipolysis". In its application, the cooling process can reach 4 degrees Celsius so that body fat cells are destroyed and undergo a process of apoptosis.
What is apoptosis?
Apoptosis comes from Greekapo = "From" andptosis = "Fell". Apoptosis means a biological mechanism which is one type of programmed cell death. Apoptosis is used by multicellular organisms to get rid of cells that are no longer needed by the body. Apoptosis is different from necrosis. Apoptosis generally lasts a lifetime and is beneficial for the body.
Apoptosis that occurs in fat cells due to the cryolipolysis process means that fat cells will crystallize due to the cooling process. Then, fat cells will die and will be excreted by the body through sweat, urine and feces. So, the results obtained are fat cells will be lost permanently.
How effective is cryolipolysis in removing fat?
Cryolipolysis can remove up to 20-25% fat cells in the cooled body fat areas. The focus on the cryolipolysis process is a reduction in the number of fat cells in the body, not weight reduction, because in order to form an ideal body, often the reduction in fat cells in certain areas of the body is more significant than the reduction in body weight.
Difference in fat reduction vs weight loss
There are far significant differences regardingweight loss andfat loss.
Let us first get to know the meaning of each term.Weight loss, or weight loss, is achieved if you successfully lose your body weight which consists of muscle weight, organ weight, bone weight, fat weight, and includes water content in the body. Whilefat loss,or fat reduction, is achieved when you successfully lose the amount of your body fat.
Weight loss is exactly the same as the case when we lose weight, but there is no concrete change in our bodies. In other words, we lose weight, but the fat is not lost and will remain in our body parts such as the stomach, waist, back, and arms.
While fat loss we can relate to a real change in appearance. The point is, the excess fat cells in certain places will be lost, so the body will automatically look slimmer.
This is what makes the cryolipolysis method much sought after and loved by many people, especially those who are tired of trying to get rid of excess stubborn fat in their bodies with exercise and diet without any visible changes.
