What is lidocaine + epinephrine for?
Lidocaine Hydrochloride and Epinephrine Injection, USP, are indicated for the production of local or regional anesthetics by infiltration techniques such as percutaneous injection, with peripheral nerve block techniques such as brachial plexus, and intercostal and with central nervous techniques such as lumbar and caudal epidural block, when the procedure is accepted for these techniques are described in standard textbooks.

What side effects can I experience with lidocaine + epinephrine?
The side effects are:
⇒ Severe CNS and CVS side effects are directly related to lidocaine levels
⇒ side effects are more likely after systemic administration than infiltration; dizzy; muscle twitching; local anesthesia from the mouth / throat so that the swallowing process is disturbed and increases the risk of aspiration (eating or drinking for 3-4 hours after anesthesia)
⇒ transient effects on the neonatal hearing system; erythema
⇒pigmentation; pain; headache; palpitations; local necrosis; pulmonary edema; hyperglycemia; bradycardia; reduced cardiac output; anxiety
Epidurals can cause hypotension, bradycardia, nausea and vomiting
⇒ intraoral can cause stress reactions such as diaphoresis, palpitations, hyperventilation, pallor and fainting
⇒ topical: papules, burns, rashes, skin irritation, burning sensation and blanching.
