If you really hope to get pregnant soon, there are several ways you can do while trying to conceive. Here are four things you can try so you don't have to wait too long to get your baby.

1. Visit your doctor and do a genetic test

You will get pregnant faster if your body is ready to accept pregnancy. To find out if you are in the right condition for pregnancy, and to find out what changes you need to make to help with your pregnancy program, schedule an appointment with your doctor or midwife before you try to get pregnant. You may not be able to find or solve a health problem right away in one meeting, but by getting the initial check up as soon as possible, you can anticipate problems that might arise in your pregnancy program.

Depending on your ethnic background and family history, your doctor may recommend that you do a genetic test if you or your partner has serious congenital diseases such as cystic fibrosis, sickle cell disease, and others. This is perhaps one of the most important things you can do to help ensure the health of your baby, especially as all that is needed for genetic testing is saliva or a blood sample from you and your partner. Even this examination has usually beencover by health insurance.

2. Find out when you ovulate

The biggest secret to an earlier pregnancy is knowing when you ovulate (the release of an egg from the mother egg). Suppose the egg is the target and the sperm the arrow. One of the arrows has to hit the target in order for you to get pregnant right away.

Because you ovulate once in your menstrual cycle, there are only a few days that you are out of the cycle (when you are ovulating) and that's when having sex can more likely lead to pregnancy. Knowing when you are ovulating means that you and your partner can identify when an arrow could hit the mark more precisely, than shooting random arrows and just hoping to hit the target out of luck.

If your menstrual cycle is erratic, it will be more difficult to determine when to ovulate. Please ask your doctor about this.

3. Have sex at the right time

Once you know when your egg will be released by the mother (ovulation), you can plan to have sex during your most fertile days, from the three days before ovulation to the D day of ovulation. Starting early is fine too. Some women get pregnant after sexual intercourse in the six days before ovulation.

You have plenty of time for effective sex, as sperm can last for three to six days in your body (although your egg only lasts for about a day). That means if you have sexual intercourse on Monday, sperm can stay in the fallopian tubes, waiting for the egg to release, until Thursday, or it could be as late as Sunday.

If you are not sure when your fertile period is, here is an easier and more practical tip: have sexual intercourse every other day. By having sexual intercourse frequently this means that you will always have healthy sperm waiting in your fallopian tubes every day, ready to go into action when your egg is released.

Another piece of advice: If you and your partner wait to have sex only when you are at the most fertile time, make sure your husband has ejaculated at least once in the two days before your fertile period. If he hasn't ejaculated for too long, there will be a lot of dead sperm in his semen when you have entered the fertile period, and these dead sperm will not be able to make you pregnant.

4. Help your partner to have the best sperm

Sperm have a higher chance of fertilizing an egg when they are healthy, strong, and in abundance. Some of the things that can help your partner to produce combat-ready sperm are:

  • Cut back on alcohol (studies have shown that consuming alcohol on a daily basis can reduce testosterone levels and sperm count, as well as increase abnormal sperm count)
  • Avoid tobacco and drugs (this can weaken sperm function)
  • Adequate consumption of basic nutrients, such as zinc, folic acid, calcium, and vitamins C and D, which can help create abundant, strong, and active sperm.
  • Avoid hot baths, saunas, and jacuzzis, as heat can kill sperm (testicles function best at 34 to 35.5 degrees Celsius, a few degrees cooler than normal body temperature).

The sooner you and your partner make changes, the better the impact will be because sperm takes time to develop. The changes you and your partner make now will result in better sperm about three months later.

How long will it take for me to get pregnant?

Statistics show that 6 out of 10 couples who try to conceive naturally, will get pregnant in the first three months. Of course this is if you and your partner are in good health and don't have fertility problems.

After three months, how long you should continue trying before seeking help from a specialist fertility specialist depends on your age. With increasing age, your fertility will decrease. So if you are over 40 years of age, immediately consult with experts. If you are around 35 to 40 years old, discuss with your fertility doctor after you have been trying to get pregnant for 6 months and still not getting any results. And if you are under 35 years of age, you can still try to get pregnant naturally for a year before consulting a doctor.

Of course, if you have concerns about fertility problems for you or your partner, please arrange an appointment with your doctor. There is no reason to postpone it.
