Everyone has their own way to meet the needs of body fluids. Either by consuming water or even tea, coffee, soda, juice, and others. The funny thing is, so many people prefer sweet and cold drinks to water, because sugary drinks are considered more satisfying, especially when consumed during scorching heat or after exercising. In fact, there is nothing better to consume when thirst hits except plain water.
What happens to your body when you don't drink enough
Here are signs when your body is not consuming enough water:
1. Mouth feels dry
Consuming sugary drinks will only get rid of your thirst and cause problems in the future. However, drinking water when thirsty can actually lubricate the mucous membranes in the mouth and throat, so that it can keep your mouth wet with saliva during the first sip.
2. Dry skin
The less water you consume, the less sweat your body will produce. This will cause your body to decrease its function in cleaning up excess dirt and oil. In fact, as the largest organ in the body, the skin must remain well hydrated.
3. Dry eyes
Lack of water consumption can cause your tear ducts to dry out, which can make your eyes dry and red.
4. Joint pain
Not only skin, but cartilage and spinal discs also require a lot of water intake; 80% of the cartilage and spinal disc is composed of water. Consuming enough water can prevent the bones from rubbing against each other and can allow you to move freely, such as running, jumping, etc.
5. When sick, heals longer
The function of your body's organs will decrease if you don't consume enough water. As a result, the organs of the body cannot work optimally in removing toxins in the body which causes you to recover longer.
6. Fatigue
When you are dehydrated (dehydrated), your blood becomes thicker so your heart has to work harder to keep oxygen and nutrients moving throughout your circulatory system. Lack of hydrated blood can result in a lack of oxygen being carried throughout the body. This makes you quickly sleepy and tired.
7. Constipation
Insufficient water consumption can make the digestive system work less optimally. Lack of water intake in the intestine which causes the absorption of food to be disrupted.
8. Urinating rarely
A sign that you are low on water is that your urine is dark yellow. The normal color of urine is bright yellow. In fact, in extreme cases, dehydration can lead to urinary tract infections.
9. Abdominal pain
Water serves as a buffer between the acidic content of the stomach and the stomach lining. Lack of water consumption can leave your stomach largely unprotected and constant exposure to acids, and can easily lead to stomach ulcers or pain.
10. Wrinkled skin
Lack of water consumption can cause the skin to lose its elasticity. Because blood flow is obstructed, long-term lack of water consumption can also deprive your skin cells of the nutrients they need for skin regeneration. As a result, lack of water consumption can accelerate the formation of wrinkles, fine lines, sagging or loose skin, and signs of aging.
11. Respiratory disorders
From the inside of your nose to the downstream bronchi, the entire respiratory tract relies on mucus to keep tissues moist and supple to prevent foreign particles from escaping from the lungs. Not consuming enough water can inhibit mucus production, which can hinder your respiratory system's ability to fend off allergens such as dust, pollen, and dandruff from your pets or to defend itself against infections from viruses and bacteria.
12. Impaired memory and concentration
This can occur due to slowed blood flow due to chronic dehydration.
