What is nabumetone for?
Nabumetone is a drug commonly used to reduce pain, swelling, and stiff joints due to arthritis. These drugs are known as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
If you're dealing with a chronic condition such as arthritis, ask your doctor about over-the-counter treatments or try other medications to treat pain. See also Warning section.

How to use nabumetone?
Take this medication exactly as directed by your doctor, usually 1 or 2 times daily with a full glass of water (8 ounces or 240 ml). Try not to lie down for 10 minutes after taking this medicine. To avoid indigestion, don't forget to eat and drink milk or antacids before taking this medicine.
The dosage is based on your health condition and response to treatment. To minimize the risk of side effects (such as stomach bleeding), use this medication at the lowest dose for the shortest possible time. Do not increase your dose or take it more often than recommended. For chronic conditions such as arthritis, continue taking medication as directed by your doctor. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor or pharmacist.
In certain conditions (such as rheumatoid), if this medicine is taken regularly it may take up to 2 weeks before you see maximum results.
If you are taking these medications only when needed and not on a regular schedule, remember that pain medications work best if they are used when the pain first starts. If you wait until the pain gets worse, this medicine may not work very well.

How to store nabumetone?
This medication is best stored at room temperature, away from direct light and damp places. Don't keep it in the bathroom. Don't freeze it. Other brands of this drug may have different storage rules. Do not flush medicines down the toilet or down the drain unless instructed to do so. Discard this product when it has expired or when it is no longer needed. Consult your pharmacist or local waste disposal company about how to safely dispose of your product.

What is the dosage for nabumetone for adults?
Adult Dose for Osteoarthritis
Initial Dose: 1,000 mg orally 1 time a day before bed
Dosage at treatment: 1,500-2,000 mg orally in 1-2 separate doses with a maximum daily dose of 2,000 mg
Adult Dose for Rheumatoid Arthritis
Initial Dose: 1,000 mg orally 1 time a day before bed
Dosage at treatment: 1,500-2,000 mg orally in 1-2 separate doses with a maximum daily dose of 2,000 mg

What side effects can be experienced due to nabumetone?
Seek medical help right away if you experience any of the following signs of an allergic reaction: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Stop treatment and seek medical help or a doctor if you have serious side effects such as:
- chest pain, weakness, shortness of breath, difficulty speaking, vision and balance problems
- dark, bloody stools
- coughing up blood or coughing up (vomit) like brewed coffee
- sudden weight gain
- urinating more or not at all
- nausea, stomach pain, low-grade fever, loss of appetite, dark urine, dirt-colored stools, jaundice
- fever, sore throat, headache, skin flushing and peeling
- bruising, severe tingling, numbness, pain, muscle weakness
Less serious side effects include:
- stomach problems, stomach pain, diarrhea, constipation
- gas, flatulence
- dizziness, headache, nervousness
- itchy skin and a rash appears
- blurry vision
- ears buzzing

Nabumetone Drug Warnings and Cautions
What should be known before using nabumetone?
Tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to any type of NSAID medication, for example ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) and naproxen (Aleve, Naprosyn), or any other medication.
Tell your doctor and pharmacist about any prescription or nonprescription drugs you are using, especially angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors such as benazepril (Lotensin), captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), fosinopril (Monopril), lisinopril (Prinivil) , Zestril), moexipril (Univasc), perindopril (Aceon), quinapril (Accupril), ramipril (Altace), and Trandolapril (Mavik); diuretics ('water pills'); lithium (Eskalith, Lithobid); oral medication for diabetes; phenytoin (Dilantin, Phenytek); and methotrexate (Rheumatrex). Your doctor may need to change the dose of your medication or watch you carefully to see if there are any side effects.
Tell your doctor if you have or have had asthma, especially if you have a runny nose or have nasal polyps (swelling of the lining of the nose); swelling of the hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs; or kidney or liver disease.
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, are in the process of becoming pregnant, or are breastfeeding. Do not breastfeed while taking this medicine. If you become pregnant while taking the medicine, contact your doctor.
Tell your doctor if you will have or have recently had surgery, including dental surgery. Make sure you tell your doctor or dentist that you are using this drug.
Try to avoid unnecessary exposures such as the sun for too long. Wear protective clothing, sunglasses, and sunscreen. Nabumetone can make your skin sensitive to the sun.
Is nabumetone safe for pregnant and lactating women?
There is no adequate research on the risks of using this drug in pregnant or breastfeeding women. Always consult your doctor to weigh the potential benefits and risks before using this medicine. This drug is included in the risk of pregnancy category C according to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Can food or alcohol interact with nabumetone?
Certain drugs should not be used with meals or with certain foods because they can cause drug interactions. Consuming alcohol or tobacco with certain drugs can also cause interactions. Discuss your drug use related to food, alcohol, or tobacco with your health care provider.
Avoid using tobacco in any form while you are being treated with this medicine.
What health conditions can interact with nabumetone?
Any other health conditions you have can affect the use of this drug. Always tell your doctor if you have other health problems, especially:
- anemia
- asthma
- bleeding
- blood clots
- edema
- heart attack, or have had
- congestive heart failure
- high blood pressure
- kidney problems
- liver pain (hepatitis)
- stomach or intestine sores or bleeding
- stroke, ever - use with caution as it can exacerbate the disease
- sensitive to aspirin - this drug should not be used in patients who have this problem
- heart surgery (coronary artery bypass graft) - this drug should NOT be used for pain relief right before or after surgery.
Nabumetone overdose
What should I do in an emergency or overdose?
In case of emergency or overdose, contact your local emergency services provider (112) or immediately to the nearest hospital emergency department.
Symptoms of an overdose include:
- lack of energy
- sleepy
- nausea
- gag
- gastric pain
- hard to breath
- seizures
What should I do if I miss a dose?
If you forget a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as possible. However, when it is nearing the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and return to the usual dosing schedule. Don't double the dose.
