Acute coronary syndrome can be cured, but …
Acute coronary syndrome or commonly known as heart attack is one of the cardiovascular problems that causes the highest death. No wonder so many people wonder about the chances of curing this disease.
In order to answer these concerns, dr. Ade Meidian Ambari, Sp.JP, cardiologist at Harapan Kita Hospital, revealed the real facts. Met at an event entitled Handling of SKA at StagePre-Hospital in Indonesia in South Jakarta, on Monday (18/02), dr. Ade explained that how quickly a patient gets treatment at the hospital is the key to curing this disease.
"If we come to the hospital early for reperfusion, then patients with acute coronary syndrome can return to their normal activities," said dr. Ade.
Reperfusion itself is an action to reopen blocked blood flow by administering special drugs or placing a heart ring. So, the sooner the acute syndrome disease is resolved, the better the results.
However, it is important to understand that the risk of recurrence of acute coronary syndrome is also very large. Especially if the patient does not adopt a healthy lifestyle after undergoing treatment.
"The risk of recurrence of this disease is 35 percent. This means that if the patient has placed the ring and does not take medication regularly, the smoking is active, the blood vessels can become clogged again. The blockage can be in the place where the ring is installed, or in other places, ”added dr. Ade, who is also a member of the Indonesian Association of Cardiovascular Specialists (PERKI).
People aged 40 years and over are recommended routine medical check-ups
Medical check up is a series of medical examinations to determine your overall body condition. This examination also allows the doctor to plan the right treatment according to your health condition. When medical check up, the doctor or medical team will perform a series of tests, including physical and laboratory tests. Depending on your age or medical history, your doctor may also recommend other medical tests.
People who are at high risk or who suffer from certain diseases are strongly recommended to do so medical check up more often than those who are not at risk. In the case of acute coronary syndrome disease, medical check up at least once a year is highly recommended, especially those who are over 40 years of age and have risk factors.
"If you are male or female over 40 years of age, it is recommended to do so medical check up cardiovascular specialists every year. Especially if you have risk factors in your life, namely smoking, hypertension, high cholesterol, and a family history, "explained dr. Ade.
Medical check-up procedures specifically for cardiovascular diseases are usually performed with an EKG stress test. The purpose of doing an EKG test is to help your doctor know how your heart responds to pressure when your body is doing physical activity.
When doing this test, the doctor will ask the patient to walk on a treadmill or use a stationary bike. From the lowest speed to the highest, the doctor and medical team will monitor any changes in your heart rate and blood pressure.
Well, if the results of the examination show a narrowing of the coronary, the doctor will carry out a further examination which includes a CT scan or cardiac catheterization. These two tests are done to see how severe the narrowing of the patient's blood vessels is.
"Placement of a heart ring is generally done if the narrowing in the branch vessels is more than 70 percent or the narrowing in the main blood vessels is more than 50 percent," concluded Dr. Ade.
