Women who like to wear high heels may often feel sore heels. People who regularly run may also feel the same way. Likewise with people who have rheumatism or tendonitis (inflammation of the tendons). You can try the following ways to deal with heel pain, such as:
1. Take pain relievers
Inflammation of the heel that causes pain can be treated with pain relievers, such as ibuprofen, acetaminophen, and naproxen. These drugs can relieve pain by inhibiting and reducing inflammation.
If these pain relievers don't work, you can switch to corticosteroid injections, with doctor's supervision, of course.
2. Rest when the heel hurts
When you feel a sore heel, you should not force it to move. You should rest until your symptoms improve. If you ignore and keep on doing activities, the pain will get worse.
3. Compress with ice
While you are resting your feet, you can place an ice pack wrapped in a towel on your heels. The coldness of the ice can reduce swelling and pain. Compress the heel with ice cubes can be done 2 times a day when the heel begins to feel pain.
4. Leg stretching exercises
Even though you are advised to rest, it doesn't mean you can't do physical activity at all with this condition. There are special foot exercises that strengthen the leg muscles and reduce pain in the heels. This exercise is carried out in two ways, namely:
- Sitting on a chair stretching your legs straight forward and touching your feet with your hands. Do this movement 10 times.
- Stand facing a wall and place the heel of the sore foot behind the other leg. Then, bend your front legs while pushing your upper body toward the wall and place your hands on the wall. Then move the body up and down and do it 10 times.
5. Operation
If the medications and treatments you did before did not make you feel better, then surgery is the final treatment solution. A surgical process is done to correct problems that are plaguing your heel.
