What is Vardenafil used for?

Vardenafil is a drug to treat male sexual function problems (impotence or erectile dysfunction). In combination with sexual stimulation, Vardenafil works by increasing blood flow to the penis to help men get and maintain an erection.

This medicine does not work to protect against sexually transmitted diseases (such as HIV, hepatitis B, gonorrhea, syphilis). Practicing "safe sex" is like using a latex condom. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more details.

How do you use Vardenafil?

Read the drug's guide and the Patient Information Leaflet provided by the pharmacy, if available, before you get this medication and each time you buy it again. If you have questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Take this medication by mouth as directed by your doctor, as needed. Take Vardenafil, with or without food, about 1 hour before sexual activity. Don't take it more than once a day. Dosage should be taken at least after 24 hours of previous use.

Avoid eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice while using this medicine unless your doctor or pharmacist has said it is safe for you. Grapefruit can increase the chance of this drug's side effects. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for more details.

How to store Vardenafil?

Store at room temperature, away from direct light and damp places. Don't keep it in the bathroom. Don't freeze it. Other brands of this drug may have different storage rules. Observe the storage instructions on the product package or ask your pharmacist. Keep all medicines away from children and pets.

Do not flush medicines down the toilet or down the drain unless instructed to do so. Discard this product when it has expired or when it is no longer needed. Consult your pharmacist or local waste disposal company about how to safely dispose of your product.

Allergy

Children

Drug Interactions

What medicines can interfere with the drug Vardenafil?

Drug interactions can change the performance of your medications or increase the risk of serious side effects. Not all possible drug interactions are listed in this document. Tell your doctor about all medicines you use, and any medicines you have used or have stopped using during your treatment with Vardenafil, especially:

• Medicines you use for erectile dysfunction;
• Antibiotics - clarithromycin, erythromycin and others;
• Antifungal drugs - itraconazole, ketoconazole and others;
• Medicines to treat high blood pressure or prostate disorders - alfuzosin, doxazosin, prazosin, silodosin, terazosin, tamsulosin;
• Medicines for heart rhythm - amiodarone, dofetilide, disopyramide, dronedarone, procainamide, quinidine, sotalol; or
• HIV / AIDS drugs - atazanavir, indinavir, ritonavir, saquinavir, and others.

Can certain foods and drinks interfere with the work of the Vardenafil drug?

Certain drugs should not be used with meals or when eating certain foods because drug interactions can occur. Consuming alcohol or tobacco with certain drugs can also cause interactions to occur. Discuss your use of drugs with food, alcohol, or tobacco with your health care provider.

What health conditions can interfere with the performance of the drug Vardenafil?

Any other health conditions you have can affect the use of this drug. Always tell your doctor if you have other health problems, especially:

• Abnormal penile shape, including penile curvature and penile defects from birth - The problems that occur in this condition are at increased risk and this medicine should be used with caution in patients with this condition
• Age over 50 years
• Coronary artery disease
• Diabetes
• Hyperlipidemia (excess fat in the blood)
• Hypertension (high blood pressure)
• Low Cup to disc ratio (eye condition also called “Crowded disc”)
• Smoking - This condition can increase your risk for a serious eye problem called non-arteritic ischemic optic neuropathy or NAION.
• Angina (frequent chest pain)
• Arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat)
• Heart attack (in the last 6 months)
• Severe heart failure
• Hypertension (high blood pressure), uncontrolled
• Hypotension (low blood pressure)
• Severe kidney disease
• Severe liver disease
• Retina disorders (eye problems)
• Retinitis pigmentosa (an inherited eye disorder)
• Stroke, history of recent stroke - Should not be used in patients with this condition.
• Bleeding disorders
• Ulcer - Problems that occur even at risk can increase; it is not known whether the drug is safe for use in these patients.
• Bone marrow cancer
• Leukemia (linked to blood cancer)
• Multiple myeloma (linked to cancer of the blood)
• Sickle cell anemia (blood disorder) -Vardenafil should be used with caution in these patients as problems with prolonged erection of the penis can occur.
• Fructose intolerance - the oral tablet contains sorbitol, which can make this condition worse.
• Cardiac blood flow problems - this condition can cause you to become more sensitive to vardenafil.
• Heart disease - It is thought that low blood pressure is greater; Vardenafil should be used with caution in patients with these conditions.
• Kidney illness
• Liver disease - Problems that occur are at increased risk; a lower initial dose may be used and the dose is increased as needed and tolerated.
• NAION (serious eye condition) in one or both eyes), history of having such an eye condition - May increase your chances of getting NAION again.

Vardenafil dosage for erectile dysfunction:

Initial dose: 10 mg orally once a day, as needed, about 60 minutes before sexual activity. Increase to 20 mg or reduce to 5 mg based on efficacy and tolerability.

Maximum dose: 20 mg once a day

Initial dose: 5 mg orally once a day

Vardenafil dosage for the elderly with erectile dysfunction:

Initial dose: 5 mg orally once a day, as needed, about 60 minutes before sexual activity.

What is the dosage of Vardenafil for children?

Safety and effectiveness have not been determined in pediatric patients (less than 18 years).

In what dosages and preparations is Vardenafil available?

Vardenafil is available in the following dosages:

Film coated tablet: 2.5 mg; 5 mg; 10 mg; 20 mg

What to do in an emergency or overdose?

In case of an emergency or overdose, contact the local emergency services provider (119) or immediately to the nearest hospital emergency department.

Symptoms of an overdose include:

• Muscle ache
• Blurred vision

What should I do if I forget to take medicine or forget to take medicine?

If you forget a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as possible. However, when it is nearing the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and return to the usual dosing schedule. Don't double the dose.
