What drug triptorelin?
What is Triptorelin used for?
Triptorelin is an artificial hormone that can over-stimulate the production of certain hormones, causing hormone production to stop temporarily.
Triptorelin is commonly used to treat symptoms of prostate cancer. Triptorelin can only treat the symptoms of prostate cancer, but it doesn't treat the cancer itself. Use other medicines that your doctor has given you to treat your condition.
Triptorelin can also be used for purposes not listed in the medication guide.
What are the rules for using Triptorelin?
Triptorelin is usually given every 4, 12, or 24 weeks. Your dosage schedule will depend on the levels of triptorelin you are taking. Follow all directions on the label of your prescription medication. Do not use this medication in amounts greater or less or for longer than recommended.
Triptorelin is injected into a muscle. You can be shown how to use this injection at home. Do not inject this drug into yourself if you do not understand how to give the injection and how to properly dispose of used needles.
Triptorelin is a powder medicine that must be mixed with a liquid (diluent) before use. If you are using injections at home, make sure you understand how to mix and store this medication properly.
Do not shake the mixture, as this can create foam. Only prepare a dose when you are ready to give the injection. Do not use if the drug has changed color or has particles in it. Ask your pharmacist for new drugs.
After the injection, your prostate cancer symptoms may get worse for a short time because triptorelin increases your testosterone levels. These side effects should get better within 3 or 4 weeks. Call your doctor if symptoms do not improve, or if they get worse while using triptorelin.
While using triptorelin, you may need to have frequent blood tests.
Each use of a single bottle of this medicine is for one use only. Throw away after use, even if some of the medicine remains in it after your dose.
Use a disposable needle only once, then dispose of it in a tamper-resistant container (ask your pharmacist where you can find the container and how you dispose of it). Keep this container out of reach of children and pets.
Follow the rules given by your doctor or pharmacist before starting treatment. If you have any questions, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
How do I store Triptorelin?
This medication is best stored at room temperature, away from direct light and damp places. Don't keep it in the bathroom. Don't freeze it. Other brands of this drug may have different storage rules. Observe the storage instructions on the product package or ask your pharmacist. Keep all medicines away from children and pets.
Do not flush medicines down the toilet or down the drain unless instructed to do so. Discard this product when it has expired or when it is no longer needed. Consult your pharmacist or local waste disposal company about how to safely dispose of your product.
