In addition to quenching thirst, bottled mineral water is a type of drinking water that can be consumed to keep the body hydrated. Mineral water contains balanced minerals that can help supplement mineral needs in the body. However, don't just choose mineral water. It is important to choose bottled mineral water that is safe for consumption and reliable in the management of the process that reaches the consumer.
Since drinking water is a basic necessity for everyone and is sold everywhere, mineral water must meet the standards set by the government. Before choosing the type of mineral water, we need to know what criteria and standards that bottled mineral water must meet so that it can be said to be good and safe to drink.
Regulations regarding
Contaminated and unclean drinking water is an easy medium for transmission of diseases, such as cholera, diarrhea, hepatitis A, typhus, and polio. Seeing this condition, WHO (World Health Organization) recommends developing the implementation of a Water Safety Plan for suppliers, as an effective step to meet the needs as well as public health.
This is also done by the Indonesian government. The role of the government and mineral water industry players is to coordinate to ensure the production process and quality of drinking mineral water. Regulation of the Minister of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia Number 96 / M-IND / PER / 12/2011 describes the technical requirements for bottled drinking water industry. Here is explained about the assessment of the adequate bottled mineral water production process.
The Ministerial Regulation explains that the location of water sources must meet health requirements such as being far from sewage channels, septic tanks, animal pens, and free from environmental pollution. Apart from that, it also regulates the provisions for the equipment used, the production machines and laboratory equipment that comply with the statutory provisions.
In the attachment to the Regulation of the Minister of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia Number 96 / M-IND / PER / 12/2011, it is explained that the stages of the bottled mineral water production process that must be passed are as follows:
1. Taking water from water sources
The water that is taken must come from a water source that has met health requirements in accordance with statutory provisions
2. Water filtration
In this stage, the water that has been taken from the source is filtered.
3. Disinfection
This stage is an important stage in the process of producing bottled mineral water because it is done to clean water from bacteria that can interfere with health.
4. Cleaning the packaging
The government regulates provisions for cleaning packaging, both disposable and reusable, such as gallons. For reused packages, a careful visual inspection is required before washing.
5. Charging and closing
The final stage, namely filling and closing, must be carried out in a hygienic manner in a clean and sanitary room.
Every mineral water company is obliged to ensure the hygiene of its products
Good bottled mineral water goes through a high-tech production process and is not directly touched by human hands. This mineral water is able to protect bacteria, chemicals, and other contaminants.
All products that arrive at consumers must comply with SNI (Indonesian National Standard) 3553: 2015. This standard is established as a measure of passing the quality requirements and test methods. The requirements stipulated in this SNI are carried out as a form of support for drinking water industrial products and health protection for consumers.
Mineral water products that have passed SNI can be safely consumed by the public. In the requirements, passing the mineral water test cannot be separated from the monitoring of the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM).
Therefore, to fulfill the stipulated requirements, every mineral water company must have a quality control laboratory. Control and quality testing during the production process of bottled mineral water must be carried out to guarantee the quality according to the applicable SNI.
The above is one of the procedures that the company adheres to, so that the quality of mineral water can be felt by the community.
It should be noted, the quality of drinking water itself is not only seen from its hygiene and clinical trials, but also from the source of mineral water that is extracted and processed.
Drinking mineral water
Have you ever asked, what is good drinking water actually like? According to Minister of Health Regulation number 492 of 2010, good drinking water is tasteless, odorless, colorless, and does not contain harmful substances to the body. One type of drinking water that is sold freely and is safe for consumption is mineral water, which contains natural minerals.
Good quality mineral water is not only seen from the SNI logo (Indonesian National Standard) but also begins with the selection of a good water source. Quality mineral water is taken from natural mountain sources where the balance of the ecosystem around the water source is also protected.
Why is this important? Because protected water sources will keep the natural mineral content ready to drink and are beneficial for health.
So, pay attention to your choice of mineral water. Not only safe and hygienic, but choose protected sources to protect ourselves and our families.
