Orgasm is the pleasure most sought after during sex. In fact, many say that sex does not reach orgasm that means it is not sex. However, some people can pass out after orgasm, even though they are neither role playing nor engaging in "rough" sex that involves BDSM-style choking. Have you experienced it? What causes it, huh?
Why do you pass out after orgasm?
Most people probably only know sex is good, but they don't know what makes it feel good. Before attaining that worldly pleasure, you will first go through various changes in bodily functions.
From the first minute of stimulation until the seconds to orgasm, the heart will beat faster to pump blood, causing the blood flow to be heavier. The more the heart beats, the blood pressure increases too.
On the other hand, when the width of the pulmonary arteries cannot accommodate the rapid flow of blood from the heart, the lungs cannot fully expand to accommodate the oxygen you breathe. This will make it difficult for you to breathe freely. That's why short, fast-paced breathing that is gasping irregularly (hyperventilation) can be one of the effects of orgasm.
During hyperventilation, you emit more carbon dioxide than you breathe in oxygen. Decreasing levels of carbon dioxide in the blood will then trigger narrowing of the blood vessels that supply blood to the brain.
Now, when the brain doesn't get enough oxygenated blood, this will cause a weakness in the nervous system so that you will feel like "floating" after orgasm. Loss of consciousness, aka fainting, tends to occur in severe cases of hyperventilation.
Is this natural?
The side effects of fainting after orgasm are not really that common. However, this reaction may be more likely in people who have POTS syndrome, which is a low blood pressure syndrome that makes the headache spin after suddenly rising from sitting or lying down. The position of the body that changes rapidly during sex, especially if the maneuvers are extreme enough, can cause blood pressure to drop dramatically.
In addition, people who do have heart rhythm disorders (arrhythmias) are also more prone to fainting after orgasm. Arrhythmias cause the heart to beat abnormally, whether it's too fast, too slow, beats too early (prematurely), or irregularly. This increases the risk of the body rapidly weakening because the brain and lungs are not supplied with sufficient oxygen to function optimally. Moreover, the symptoms of arrhythmia can be aggravated by physical activity that is too intense, such as sex.
Whatever the cause, you should see a doctor if you pass out repeatedly after sex. That way, the treatment given will be adjusted to the cause. In addition, the doctor will also provide certain recommendations so that the effects of orgasms that can harm the body can be avoided.
