What is pseudohipoparathyroid?
Pseudohipoparathyroid is a genetic disorder that causes the body to fail to respond to parathyroid hormone.

What are the signs and symptoms of pseudohipoparathyroidism?
Pseudohipoparathyroid symptoms associated with calcium deficiency include:
- Cataract
- Teeth problems
- Numbness (numbness; numbness)
- Seizures
- Tetani
People who have albright hereditary osteodystrophy may have the following symptoms:
- Build-up of calcium under the skin
- A dimple appears on the fingers
- Round face and short neck
- The fingers are short, especially the finger bones under the fourth finger
- Short body

Cause
What causes pseudohipoparathyroidism?
The parathyroid glands produce parathyroid hormone which regulates the levels of calcium, phosphorus, and vitamin D in the blood and bones. If you have pseudohypoparathyroidism, your body produces adequate levels of parathyroid hormone, but it doesn't respond to its effects. This causes the body to lack calcium and high levels of phosphate in the blood.
Pseudohypoparathyroidism is caused by a genetic disorder. There are several types of pseudohypoparathyroidism, all of which are rare.
- Type Ia is inherited from only one parent. This type is also called Albright hereditary osteodystrophy. This condition causes short stature, round face, obesity, developmental disorders, and short fingers. Symptoms that appear depend on who the genetic makeup is inherited from (father or mother).
- Type Ib is resistant to parathyroid hormone in the kidneys. This results in low blood calcium levels, but does not show other symptoms of albright hereditary osteodystrophy.
- Type II causes low calcium levels and high phosphate levels in the blood. The cause is unknown.

How is pseudohipoparathyroidism diagnosed?
Pseudohypoparathyroidism is diagnosed through a blood test to check the levels of calcium, phosphorus, and parathyroid hormone in the blood. You may also need a urine test.
Other tests include:
- Genetic test
- MRI or CT scan of the brain
How is pseudohipoparathyroidism treated?
Your doctor can prescribe calcium and vitamin D supplements to control normal levels in the blood. If you have high levels of phosphorus in your blood, you may need to plan a diet low in phosphorus or take a phosphorus binder (such as calcium bicarbonate or calcium acetate).
