Perindopril is a drug used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering high blood pressure can help prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. This drug is also used to prevent heart attacks in patients with certain types of heart disease (stable coronary artery disease).
Perindopril belongs to a class of drugs known as ACE inhibitors. It works by relaxing blood vessels so that blood can flow more easily.

How to use Perindopril?
Take this medication, usually once or twice daily or as directed by your doctor. Dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. For the treatment of high blood pressure, drug manufacturers recommend using no more than 16 milligrams per day.
Use this remedy regularly for the most benefit. Remember to use it at the same time every day. Do not skip doses or stop taking this medication unless directed by your doctor. Keep taking this medication even if you feel well. Most people with high blood pressure don't feel sick. This medication may take up to several weeks before the full benefits take effect.

What is the Perindopril dosage for adults?
Usual Adult Dose for Coronary Artery Disease
Initial dose: 4 mg orally once a day for two weeks, then increase according to tolerance to a maintenance dose of 8 mg orally once a day.
Maintenance dose: 4 mg to 8 mg orally once a day.
Usual Adult Dose for Congenital Heart Failure
Initial dose: 4 mg orally once a day
Maintenance dose: 4 mg to 8 mg orally every day in one or two divided doses
Usual Adult Dose for Diabetes Nephropathy
Initial dose: 4 mg orally once a day
Maintenance dose: 4 mg to 8 mg orally every day in one or two divided doses
Usual Adult Dose for Hypertension
Initial dose: 4 mg orally once a day
Maintenance dose: 4 mg to 8 mg orally every day in one or two divided doses

Perindopril side effects
What side effects can I experience due to Perindopril?

- swelling, rapid weight gain

Can food or alcohol interact with Perindopril?
Certain drugs should not be used with meals or when eating certain foods because drug interactions can occur. Consuming alcohol or tobacco with certain drugs can also cause interactions to occur. Discuss your use of drugs with food, alcohol, or tobacco with your health care provider.
What health conditions may interact with Perindopril?
The presence of other health problems in your body may affect the use of this drug. Tell your doctor if you have other health problems such as:
- Angioedema (swelling of the face, lips, tongue, throat, arms, or legs) with other ACE inhibitors, history. Can increase the risk of this condition happening again
- Collagen vascular disease (autoimmune disease) together with the risk of kidney disease. Increased blood problems
- Congenital heart failure, severe. Use can cause kidney problems
- Diabetes
- Kidney problems. Increased risk of potassium levels in the body becoming too high
- Diabetics who also use Aliskiren (Tesorna®)
- Hereditary angioedema or idiopathic angioedema
- Patients with kidney disease who are also taking Aliskiren (Tesorna®) - should not be used in patients with this condition
- Electrolyte imbalance (eg low sodium in the blood)
- Fluid imbalance (caused by dehydration, vomiting, or diarrhea)

What should I do if I miss a dose?
If you forget a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as possible. However, when it is nearing the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and return to the usual dosing schedule. Don't double the dose.
