What is the function of Pantoloc?

Pantoloc is a drug commonly used for the treatment of conditions such as stomach ulcers, intestinal ulcers, andgastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD, reflux esophagitis, stomach acid disorders) by reducing the amount of acid produced by the stomach. Pantoprazole is sometimes also used together with antibiotics to treat stomach ulcers caused by a bacteria called H. pylori.

Pantoprazole can also be used to treat or reduce the risk of heartburn caused by the so-called medications nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), which irritate the stomach.

How do you use Pantoloc?

This medicine is to be taken according to doctor's directions, usually once a day. The dosage and length of treatment are based on your medical condition and response to treatment.

If used in the morning, the tablets can be taken with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole. Do not split, crush, or chew the medicine. This can destroy the drug.

If needed, antacids can be used together with this medicine. If you are also taking sucralfate, take pantoprazole at least 30 minutes beforehand.

Common side effects of pantoprazole can include:

  • Headache
  • Fever
  • Cold symptoms such as stuffy nose, sneezing, sore throat
  • Abdominal pain, bloating, nausea, vomiting
  • Mild diarrhea, or
  • Muscle ache

Drug Interactions

What medicines should not be taken at the same time as Pantoloc?

Tell your doctor about all medications you are currently taking, and starting or discontinuing them during treatment with pantoprazole, especially:

  • Ampicillin
  • Ketoconazole
  • Methotrexate
  • Mycophenolate mofetil
  • Warfarin (coumadin, jantoven)
  • HIV or aids drugs, nelfinavir, or
  • Medicines containing iron — ferrous fumarate, ferrous gluconate, ferrous sulfate and others

What is the dosage of Pantoloc for adults?

Acid reflux disorder (medication)

Oral, 40 mg per day for up to eight weeks. An additional eight-week course of treatment may be considered in patients who do not recover after four to eight weeks of treatment.

Acid reflux disorder (prophylaxis)

Oral, 20 mg once daily, in the morning. The dose may be increased to 40 mg once daily, in the morning, if a relapse returns.

Ulcer, duodenum, H.pylori related (treatment)

Orally, a 40 mg regimen of triple pantoprazole therapy, plus 500 mg of clarithromycin, plus either 1000 mg of amoxicillin or 500 mg of metronidazole, and all three drugs were taken twice daily for seven days.

Ulcer, duodenum (treatment)

Oral, 40 mg per day for up to two weeks. An additional two-week course of treatment may be considered in patients who do not recover after two weeks of treatment.

Ulcer, stomach (treatment)

Oral, 40 mg per day for up to four weeks. An additional four-week course of treatment may be considered in patients who do not recover after four weeks of treatment.

What is the dosage of Pantoloc for children?
