Use
What is Orciprenaline for?
Orciprenaline is a direct-acting sympathomimetic drug. This drug has minimal effect on heart rate.
How do you use Orciprenaline?
Can be used with or without food.
How do I store Orciprenaline?
This medication is best stored at room temperature, away from direct light and damp places. Don't keep it in the bathroom. Don't freeze it. Other brands of this drug may have different storage rules. Observe the storage instructions on the product package or ask your pharmacist. Keep all medicines away from children and pets.
Do not flush medicines down the toilet or down the drain unless instructed to do so. Discard this product when it has expired or when it is no longer needed. Consult your pharmacist or local waste disposal company about how to safely dispose of your product.

What is the dose of Orciprenaline for adults?
For the treatment of reversible chronic airway obstruction: 20 mg 3 or 4 times daily.
For bradycardia: up to 240 mg per day in divided doses.
For acute bronchospasm: Inhaler with a metered dose dispensing 750 mcg per inhalation. Max: Up to 12 inhalations in 24 hours. As 5% liquid from hand nebuliser: 10 inhalations.
With nebulizing devices such as apparatus intermittent positive-pressure breathing (IPPB): 0.2-0.3 ml of 5% solution diluted to 2.5 ml of physiological saline, given no more than every 4 hours.
Intravenous for bradycardia: 250-500 mcg by slow IV injection.
What is the dosage of Orciprenaline for children?
For chronic reversible airway obstruction:
- Up to 1 year: 5-10 mg three times a day,
- 1-3 years: 5-10 mg 4 times a day,
- 3-12 years: 40-60 mg daily in multiple doses.
Inhalation for acute bronchospasm
Inhaler with metered dose:
- > 12 years: 1-2 inhalations (750 mcg); repeat if needed after 3 hours at the earliest. Maximum within 24 hours.
- <6 years: up to 4 inhalations; 6-12 years: up to 8 inhalations.
Nebuliser:
Infants and children: 0.01-0.02 ml of 5% fluid; minimum dose: 0.1 ml; Maximum dose: 0.3 ml diluted in 2-3 ml normal saline every 4-6 hours or more often if needed.

What side effects may occur due to Orciprenaline?
Tachycardia, restlessness, increased serum glucose, increased potassium levels, tremors, palpitations, headache, dizziness, insomnia, nausea, vomiting, bad taste, heartburn, xerostomia, shaking, muscle cramps, weakness, cough, pharyngitis, increased diaphoresis , paradoxical bronchospasm, hypertension, chest pain, angina, drowsiness, diarrhea, changes in taste.
Not everyone experiences the following side effects. There may be some side effects not listed above. If you have concerns about certain side effects, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Precautions & Warnings

Heart-related diseases (arrhythmias, hypertension, CHF), DM, hypokalemia, seizure disorders. Pregnancy and lactation.

There are no adequate studies regarding the risks of using this drug in pregnant or breastfeeding women. This drug is included in the risk of pregnancy category C according to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Interaction
What medicines may interact with Orciprenaline?
Drug interactions can change the performance of your medications or increase the risk of serious side effects. Not all possible drug interactions are listed in this document. The effects can be countered by β-blockers such as propranolol. The duration of bronchodilation can be increased with inhaled ipratropium. Increased adverse effects with MAOI, TCA, sympathomimetics.
Can food or alcohol interact with Orciprenaline?

What should I do in an emergency or overdose?

What should I do if I miss a dose?
If you forget a dose of this medicine, use it as soon as possible. However, when it is nearing the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and return to the usual dosing schedule. Don't double the dose.
