What medicine is Lindane?
What is Lindane for?
Lindane is a drug commonly used to treat scurvy which does not go away or gets side effects after being given a relatively safer drug option (such as permethrin or crotamiton).
Lindane works by killing small insects (mites) and egg seeds that cause scabies. Scurvy infection can also be called a "curse". This medicine should not be used to prevent or treat recurrent scabies (curses).
How is lindane used?
This drug can be poisonous if used incorrectly. Do not drink it and avoid contact with eyes, nose or mouth. In case of contact, clean with water and seek medical help immediately if the stinging sensation persists after cleaning. Do not use this medication on areas that are injured or sore (for example, open wounds, rashes, cuts, or pain) unless your doctor allows them to.
Cut your nails then clean with warm water (not hot water), then wait about 1 hour after bathing before you can use this medicine. Wet conditions and warm skin can facilitate the absorption of this drug into your bloodstream. The average adult needs 1 ounce (30 mL), but a larger person needs about 2 ounces (60 mL).
Make sure your skin is clean and not using any lotions, creams, ointments, or oils. These products can inhibit the absorption of the drug into your skin and blood circulation, which can lead to serious side effects. If you are currently using these products, make sure to clean them first before starting treatment.
Shake the bottle first before using this medicine. Apply a small amount of the medication all over your body from neck to feet as directed by your doctor. Use a toothbrush to apply the medicine under your nails (scabies mites usually like this area). Don't forget to throw away the toothbrush that you have used to apply the medicine by wrapping it in plastic. Dispose of in the trash and keep out of reach of children and pets.
After administering the medicine, do not cover the skin with cloth that does not absorb sweat (eg, disposable diapers, tight clothing, blankets). Avoid skin to skin contact with anyone after you have used this medicine.
Leave the drug for 8-12 hours. Staying overnight while you sleep is usually sufficient. Do not leave the medication on the skin for more than 12 hours. Leaving the medication on the skin for too long will not kill the mites / scabies eggs, but instead pose serious or even fatal risks such as increased seizures. Clean this drug by bathing using warm water (not hot).
If a baby or young child is using this medicine, monitor your child carefully after using this medicine to make sure they do not put their hands / feet in their mouths.
If you are applying this medication to other people, use disposable gloves made of nitrile, latex with neoprene, or vinyl to reduce the risk of touching the drug or developing side effects. Do not use natural latex gloves as they will penetrate. Wash your hands thoroughly after using this medicine.
The symptom of scurvy is an itching feeling that generally gets worse when you sleep. You can also see fine, wavy lines on the skin with tiny insects at the end (burrow). Burrows are usually found in finger / toe webs, wrists, elbows, armpits, belt line, lower buttocks, female nipples, or male genitalia. Even if lindane kills all the scabies, the dead mites can still make you itch for a long time after treatment. Ask your doctor about other medications that can be used to soothe an itch. Tell your doctor if your condition persists or worsens 2-3 weeks after treatment.
How to store lindane?
This medication is best stored at room temperature, away from direct light and damp places. Don't keep it in the bathroom. Don't freeze it. Other brands of this drug may have different storage rules. Observe the storage instructions on the product package or ask your pharmacist. Keep all medicines away from children and pets.
Do not flush medicines down the toilet or down the drain unless instructed to do so. Discard this product when it has expired or when it is no longer needed. Consult your pharmacist or local waste disposal company about how to safely dispose of your product.
