Have you ever heard your stomach creak suddenly? Sometimes this rumbling sound can be heard throughout a quiet room, for example in class or in the office, so it often makes you embarrassed. Stomach noises are often seen as a sign that your stomach is empty and that you are hungry. Is it true? What exactly makes a hungry stomach sound?
Stomach sounds are normal
In fact, a sounding stomach is a normal thing for everyone, although in some cases stomach sounds are a symptom and sign of a disease. But a hungry stomach and then making noises is a common thing. You may often hear your stomach growling because you haven't filled it with any food. But actually this sound can still appear even when the stomach is filled with food.
In medical language, the sound produced by the stomach is called borborgimi or what is commonly known by the layman as the sound of 'crucuk-crucuk' from the stomach growling. Actually it is still not known exactly what makes the stomach sound when approaching mealtime or when you smell the delicious smell of food. Borbogimi is Greek for "roar". It is true that when your stomach is empty and there is no food, the sound is like a rumbling sound.

What causes stomach sounds?
Even so, the stomach actually always produces sound because there are movements made by the organs in the stomach. This can happen when there is or is not food in the stomach. The sound that the stomach makes is the result of the movement of the digestive organs in the stomach, such as the stomach, small intestine, and large intestine. This movement is called peristalsis, which is unconscious movement and is directly regulated by the brain.
Basically, the gastrointestinal tract (from mouth to anus) is a tube that is hollow and has walls consisting of smooth muscles. When the wall is active or working, the peristalsis appears. This kneading motion aims to encourage food, liquid, and gas to enter. Similar to how the heart pumps blood, this unconscious movement of the gastrointestinal tract is also caused by the presence of an electric potential (BER) carried out by the cells to cause contraction. The resulting rhythm is about 3 times per minute in the stomach and 12 times per minute in the small intestine. So that the sound of the stomach that you hear is the sound of the walls of the stomach and small intestine contracting, which is trying to mix all the food, liquid, and gas and push it to enter the next channel.

Why does the stomach sound so loud when hungry?
In fact, two hours after the gastrointestinal tract empties all the food from its place, the stomach signals the brain to secrete hormones in response to an empty stomach. Then the brain responds to these signals by stimulating the smooth muscles in the gastrointestinal tract and initiating peristalsis.
Two things will happen from the movement: first, the contraction will sweep away any food that might have been left behind when the previous movement occurred. Second, the vibrations of this emptying give rise to hunger. Muscle contractions will appear and disappear every hour, at least 10 to 20 minutes of muscle contraction occurs and goes away if you eat something to fill your stomach again.
So, it can be concluded that indeed the stomach always makes a 'krucuk-krucuk' sound. However, you can hear the rumbling sound because the sound of your stomach will be even more audible if there is no food in it which can dampen the noise from the sound produced.
How to prevent stomach sounds?
One of the tips that can make your stomach still and no longer make that sound, is to eat small portions but often, rather than eating large portions but can be immediately 'swept' and cleaned by the digestive tract at one time. Also cutting back on gassy foods can lower the loud rumbling sound from your stomach.
