Cockroaches are perhaps one of the most irritating house pests. Not only contaminating food, cockroaches also produce dozens of eggs that are difficult to recognize and destroy. The good news, the following tips can help you identify and eradicate cockroach eggs hidden in the corners of the house.

How to recognize cockroach eggs

There are more than 4,600 species of cockroaches, but only four of them have pest-like properties. Among the four species, the types of cockroaches that are common in Indonesia are German and American cockroaches. Both of them have a bad impact on health.

These cockroaches must pass through the egg and nymph stages before they can produce eggs. Once they reach the adult phase, cockroaches will multiply and hatch a capsule-shaped egg called ootheca.

Recognizing cockroach eggs may not be difficult, but the problem is getting rid of them. Cockroach egg capsules are usually arranged in rows 6-9 millimeters long. The color varies from light brown to dark brown, depending on the type.

One egg capsule can contain 16-50 cockroach eggs. After 24-38 days, the eggs will hatch and produce new cockroach nymphs. The nymph then grows into an adult cockroach that is ready to produce dozens of egg capsules throughout its lifetime.

How to get rid of cockroach eggs

Parent cockroaches like to hide their eggs in small holes and cracks around the house. Cockroach egg capsules are also so small that they are sometimes difficult to recognize. This is what makes cockroach eggs very difficult to destroy.

However, there are a few tips that can help you get rid of cockroach eggs. The following include:

1. Clean the damp area of the house

Cockroaches like warm, humid corners of the house and close to sources of water and food. This is why you find cockroaches more often in kitchens and bathrooms. They also tend to breed and hide their eggs here.

You can prevent cockroaches from breeding by cleaning areas such as:

  • Kitchen sink
  • Storage shelf
  • Upper and lower cabinets
  • Kitchen and bathroom floors
  • Drains in the bath
  • Storage of water pipes
  • Water heater storage box
  • Basement and laundry room

2. Using pest control

Another way to get rid of cockroach eggs is to prevent the mother from laying eggs. Try using an exterminator that contains it Chitin Synthesis Inhibitors. This product will inhibit the production of chitin in female cockroaches.

Chitin is the main ingredient that forms the body of insects and cockroach egg capsules. If production is interrupted, the mother cockroach will produce eggs without a capsule that protects it. In this way, the cockroach eggs cannot survive.

3. Destroy any cockroach eggs you find

If the cockroach has already laid eggs, now is the time to destroy the existing eggs. Take a look at the corners of your house that are prone to cockroaches. If there are cockroach eggs, you can destroy them in the following ways:

  • Smashing with shoes or other items at home. Don't forget to clean any remaining cockroach egg flakes.
  • Burn out cockroach eggs. Make sure you do this outdoors.
  • Pour boric acid on cockroach eggs.
  • Spraying pest control.
  • Suck with vacuum cleaner. This method will kill cockroach eggs, but not kill them. So, empty the pockets vacuum cleaner after use.

4. Using Insect Growth Regulator (IGR)

Insect Growth Regulator (IGR) is an insecticide that does not kill insects, but rather prevents them from growing to maturity. That way, cockroaches can no longer produce eggs.

You can pour IGR directly into cockroach eggs or place it in areas of your home where cockroaches are common. Eggs that are exposed to IGR will not be able to hatch, while cockroaches that eat them will die.

Getting rid of cockroach eggs is not easy. Using insecticides alone is sometimes not enough to destroy hidden cockroach eggs. Therefore, you need to ensure the cleanliness of the house so that it is always maintained to prevent cockroaches from reproducing.
