Every region or country has a different standard of life expectancy. The life expectancy of people in an area also often fluctuates from time to time. There are many factors that influence this. So, what is the life expectancy of the Indonesian people?
What is life expectancy?
Life expectancy (AHH) is the number of years expected to live based on a statistical mean. Usually the life expectancy in each country varies. In fact, different regions and years in one country can also differ in life expectancy.
The life expectancy of a person depends on various important variables including:
- Lifestyle
- Access to health facilities
- Economic status
However, a person may survive longer or less than expected because this figure is only calculated based on the average standard of life expectancy in his own area.
The average life expectancy of the Indonesian people
According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO), the life expectancy of Indonesians in 2016 is 60.4 years for men and 63 years for women.
Meanwhile, based on data from the Indonesian Central Bureau of Statistics, the life expectancy of Indonesians in 2018 is 73.19 years for women and 69.30 years for men.
This figure is obtained from the average life expectancy in each province in Indonesia, which amounts to 34 provinces. Out of 34 provinces, the life expectancy in DI Yogyakarta province was the highest for both men and women in 2018. For women, the life expectancy rate is 76.65 years, while men are 73.03 years.
The life expectancy of the Indonesian people has also increased from 2017 for both men and women. In 2017, the life expectancy for men was 69.16 years, while for women was 73.06 years.
Based on data from WHO, worldwide, on average women do have a higher life expectancy than men.
How to extend life expectancy
One of the things that affects a person's life expectancy is the lifestyle he lives. To extend life expectancy, there are several healthy lifestyles that should be applied in everyday life, namely:
Keep away from stress
Stress can cause many health problems and even make them worse. Stress messes with the hormones in your body, making you feel anxious and irritable. Stress makes it difficult for you to enjoy the day. If left untreated, not only your mental condition will be burdened, but also your physical condition.
That's why you shouldn't let stress be too long. Immediately do a variety of fun things to relieve stress. Usually everyone has their own way, starting from just taking deep breaths, listening to music, or maybe sleeping all day.
Whatever way to get rid of stress you do believe that this can increase your life expectancy and Indonesia as a whole.
Take the time to exercise
Can you believe that regular exercise makes you healthier and happier?
When a person exercises, the brain releases endorphins. This hormone blocks the distribution of pain signals and results in feelings of happiness. Therefore, exercising regularly can make you feel happier in the long run.
In addition, exercise also helps reduce levels of the hormones cortisol and adrenaline in the body. Both of these hormones are hormones that cause stress if the levels in the body are too high. When stress is reduced and endorphins are released, automatically a feeling of happiness will arise.
Choose any sport that you like and of course it is not burdensome. Jogging, walking on the treadmill, and cycling can be a choice of exercise that you do to help extend life expectancy.
Get enough rest
People who are sleep deprived tend to have a lot of problems during the day. Starting from lack of concentration, to irritability. In addition, lack of sleep can mess with the body's hormones and increase the risk of diabetes, obesity, and lower the immune system.
Therefore, try to sleep 7 to 8 hours per day so that your body can function properly and be kept away from various health problems. If all Indonesians get enough rest and adopt other healthy lifestyles, overall life expectancy is likely to increase.
Quit smoking
Reporting from the Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention, smoking accounts for more than 7 million deaths each year. Even if the smoking habits of the world's citizens do not change, by 2030 it is estimated that more than 8 million people will die from smoking-related diseases.
Smoking can reduce the life expectancy of Indonesians. Therefore, intend to stop smoking from now on for a better quality of life.
Eat a nutritionally balanced diet
Eating healthy and nutritionally balanced food is a must. The reason is, eating carelessly can be an entrance for disease.
Too much eating, for example, increases the risk of obesity. Obesity is a health problem that is an opening for various dangerous diseases from heart disease, diabetes, to high blood pressure.
For that, eat lots of vegetables and fruit every day from different sources. Cut back on trans fats and saturated fats to prevent the risk of obesity and heart disease.
If everyone uses these methods to prolong their life, the life expectancy of the Indonesian people will slowly increase.
