Masturbation is still a very taboo topic to be discussed openly in modern society. In the end, there are many misconceptions and myths about masturbation. You still hear a lot, don't you say that masturbating makes your knees hollow - even though it has been proven wrong? What about the neighbor whispered that masturbating makes hair fall? Consider the following medical explanation.
What do we do when we masturbate?
Masturbation or masturbation is a sexual activity that is carried out alone by stimulating the intimate organs or sensitive areas using one's own hands (you can use sex toy reinforcements as well) to get sexual satisfaction for yourself.
Men masturbate to play with the penis, testicles, and anus. Conversely, stimulation during masturbation in women is more aimed at the breasts, clitoris, and vagina.
Masturbation is generally done while imagining an erotic scene or imagination. Not infrequently people masturbate while watching pornographic films.
Is it true that masturbating makes hair fall?
The answer is no, masturbation doesn't make your hair fall out. Several small studies have shown a link to increased levels of the hormone androgen dihydrotestosterone (DHT), the hormone that triggers baldness, which is converted from the hormone testosterone as a result of stimulation of masturbation. Increased DHT did play a role in causing more hair loss, but masturbation was not found to be the sole cause of this increase.
Another theory is that masturbation reduces the availability of protein in the body because it is channeled through the semen that comes out during ejaculation. Hair is made of a special protein called keratin, and semen does contain protein. However, this theory cannot be used as solid evidence because there is not enough protein released during ejaculation to have a major effect on hair loss.
Long story short, there is no strong medical scientific evidence to support the myth that says masturbation causes hair loss. Hair loss is generally caused by a condition known as telogen effluvium (TE). This condition is influenced by several factors, such as:
- Natural aging
- Physical and mental stress
- Pregnancy
- Drastic weight loss
- High fever
- Operation
- The healing process from illness, especially if accompanied by a high fever
- Stop using birth control pills
- Too much vitamin A.
- Lack of protein
- Anemia
- Vitamin B deficiency
- Currently in the treatment of autoimmune disease
- Hormonal changes
Hair loss from telogen effluvium is temporary, and can heal usually within 6 to 9 months after you are independent of the trigger.
However, if the amount of hair loss you experience is very much beyond normal, more than 100 strands per day, it never hurts to consult a doctor. Severe hair loss is not caused by masturbation, but may be caused by autoimmune diseases such as alopecia areata, lupus, to polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
