What is the drug azithromycin?
Azithromycin is an antibiotic for treating various bacterial infections. This drug is often used to treat infections in the lungs, nose and throat, joints and bones, skin, blood, genitals, and infections of other internal organs. In some cases, this drug can also be used to prevent endocarditis (infection of the heart valves) in people who are at high risk of developing the infection because of the side effects of certain dental procedures.
Azithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic drug. This drug works by stopping growth and preventing the spread of bacteria from spreading to other parts of the body.
This antibiotic will not affect viral infections such as fever and influenza. Taking antibiotics that are not needed puts your body at risk of becoming more susceptible to infections, which can result in resistance to antibiotic treatment in the future.
