Plastic surgery is performed to improve facial appearance for cosmetic or health reasons. But just like any other medical procedure, plastic surgery can also have side effects and complications. Although not everything will end that way, but first know the side effects of plastic surgery before you decide to do it.
Various side effects of plastic surgery that may occur
The most common side effects of plastic surgery are facial swelling, redness, or pain after the procedure. Apart from these risks, there is also the possibility of side effects from anesthesia. But usually all of these effects will subside on their own over time.
Here are some of the side effects of plastic surgery and other complications that may occur.
Incompatible results
Perhaps this is the biggest fear of every plastic surgery patient. Instead of getting the face you've been dreaming of, your appearance may even be unsatisfactory
Scar
Scar tissue is part of the surgical wound healing process. Scarring can result from damage to the skin significant enough to alter the normal tissue of the skin that is healing.
The appearance of scar tissue is not always predictable, but it can be prevented by not smoking before and after surgery, maintaining a good diet after surgery, and following the doctor's instructions for recovery.
Nerve damage or numbness
In some cases, nerves can be damaged or severed during plastic surgery procedures. When the facial nerves are injured, the result can be expressionlessness of the face or eye ptosis (drooping of the upper eyelid)
Infection
The risk of wound infection after surgery can be triggered by bacteria that enter during or after the operation process, causing wounds in the incision scars. However, the chance of surgical wound infection is small, only occurring in 1-3% of the total cases.
Hematoma
A hematoma is a collection of blood outside a blood vessel. This condition can occur after surgery, causing the area to be operated on to swell and bruise with the appearance of a blood pocket under the skin.
In some cases, a hematoma can be large enough to cause pain and even block blood flow through the area. The surgeon may choose to remove some of the collected blood with a syringe or other similar method.
Necrosis
Tissue death can be caused by surgery or problems that arose after the procedure. In most cases, the risk of necrosis from plastic surgery is very small or even non-existent.
Bleeding
Like any other surgical procedure, bleeding is a side effect that can occur after plastic surgery. Bleeding becomes a problem when it comes out excessively, or continues after the wound should heal.
Dead
Death is the rarest risk of plastic surgery. The percentage might even be less than one percent. In many cases, postoperative death is caused by an allergic reaction to anesthetic drugs.
