Common causes of discharge from the penis
The presence of foreign particles or substances coming out of the penis (other than sperm) is in most cases a sign of a sexually transmitted disease or other infection. If you experience this condition, immediately consult a doctor to get an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment according to your needs. Here are some common causes of penile discharge.
1. Gonorrhea
Gonorrhea or gonorrhea is a venereal disease caused by bacteria Neisseria gonorrhoeae. These bacteria are often spread from one person to another through sexual contact, including oral, anal, and vaginal sex. Frequently changing sexual partners and not using condoms during sex increases a person's risk of developing this disease.
Most men may not be aware of the symptoms of this disease, because in many cases gonorrhea does not cause significant symptoms. The most typical symptom of gonorrhea is a thick, sticky penis discharge that is cream, yellow, or greenish like pus accompanied by excruciating pain when urinating. In addition, several other symptoms may also appear such as swelling and redness of the opening of the penis, swelling or pain in the testicles, and frequent urination.
2. Chlamydia
Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted infection caused by bacteria Chlamydia trachomatis. This disease can only be transmitted through genital fluids only. So, you won't catch the disease from toilet seats, towels, eating utensils, swimming pools, kisses, and hugs.
Most people who have this disease do not realize that they have chlamydia. The reason is, the symptoms of chlamydia are not always known. If there are several symptoms, you will usually notice them after a week or so of the transmission period.
When there are symptoms, generally a man may have a clear or cloudy discharge that appears at the tip of the penis. In addition, you may also feel excruciating pain when urinating, heat and itching in the penis opening, and swelling around the testicles.
3. Trichomoniasis
Trichomoniasis is a venereal disease caused by parasites Trichomonas vaginalis. This infection can affect men and women who frequently change partners, have sex without a condom, and have a previous history of venereal disease.
Although women have a higher risk of experiencing trichomoniasis, it is possible for men to suffer from this disease as well.
Usually the symptoms of trichomoniasis will appear within one month after infection. Even so, most people who have this disease do not experience any symptoms. When symptoms occur, the symptoms that appear are frequent urination and are generally accompanied by pain, a thick and sticky discharge from the penis, redness, and swelling at the tip of the penis.
Although not fatal, this disease can lead to a variety of serious complications, such as infertility and blockage of the urethra (urinary tract) in men.
