What is Trimipramine Maleate used for?

How do I store Trimipramine Maleate?
This medication is best stored at room temperature, away from direct light and damp places. Don't keep it in the bathroom. Don't freeze it. Other brands of this drug may have different storage rules. Do not flush medicines down the toilet or down the drain unless instructed to do so. Discard this product when it has expired or when it is no longer needed. Consult your pharmacist or local waste disposal company about how to safely dispose of your product.
Precautions & Warnings
What should be considered before using the drug Trimipramine Maleate?
You should not use trimipramine if you are allergic to this drug, or if you have:
- If you have recently had a heart attack
- If you are allergic to antidepressants such as amitriptyline, amoxapine, clomipramine, desipramine, doxepin, imipramine, nortriptyline, or protriptyline
Do not use trimipramine if you have used an MAO inhibitor in the last 14 days. Dangerous drug interactions can occur. MAO inhibitors include isocarboxazid, linezolid, methylene blue injection, phenelzine, rasagiline, selegiline, tranylcypromine, and others.
Is Trimipramine Maleate safe for pregnant and lactating women?
There are no adequate studies regarding the risks of using this drug in pregnant or breastfeeding women. Always consult your doctor to weigh the potential benefits and risks before using this medication. This drug is included in the risk of pregnancy category C according to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). (A = No risk, B = No risk in some studies, C = Possible risk, D = Positive evidence of risk, X = Contraindicated, N = Unknown)
Side effects
What are the possible side effects of Trimipramine Maleate?
Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: nausea, vomiting, sweating, hives, itching, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Report any new or worsening symptoms to your doctor, such as: mood or behavior changes, anxiety, panic attacks, trouble sleeping, or if you feel impulsive, irritable, restless, hostile, aggressive, restless, hyperactive (mental or physical), more depressed, or have thoughts about suicide or hurting yourself.
Call your doctor if you have any of the following serious side effects:
- Feelings of passing out
- New or worsening chest pain, palpitations or pauses in the chest
- Sudden numbness or weakness, problems with vision, speech, or balance
- Fever, sore throat

- Loss of appetite, constipation, diarrhea
- Dry mouth, blurred vision, ringing in your ears
- Swollen breasts (in men or women)
- Decreased sex drive, impotence, or difficulty having an orgasm

Certain drugs should not be used with meals or when eating certain foods because drug interactions can occur. Consuming alcohol or tobacco with certain drugs can also cause interactions to occur. Discuss your use of drugs with food, alcohol, or tobacco with your health care provider.

- Bipolar disorder (manic-depression), schizophrenia or other mental illness
- Liver disease

- Thyroid disorders

What is the dose of the drug Trimipramine Maleate for adults?
Usual Adult Dose for Depression:
Initial: 75 mg per day orally in divided doses.
Titration: Can be increased up to 150 mg per day.
Usual dosage range: 50-150 mg per day. All doses can be given at bedtime to improve patient comfort.
Maximum dose: 200 mg per day.
100 mg per day orally in divided doses.
Titration: Can be increased gradually over several days to 200 mg per day. If there is no improvement after 2 to 3 weeks, the dose can be increased from 250 to 300 mg per day.
Maximum dose: 300 mg per day.
Initial: 50 mg per day orally.
Titration: Can be gradually increased up to 100 mg per day depending on patient response and tolerance.
