Use
What is the drug Olopatadine for?
Olopatadine is an antihistamine drug used to treat itching and redness of the eyes due to allergies. Olopatadine is not recommended for the treatment of eye irritation due to use of contact lenses. PasteText Here
What are the rules for using Olopatadine?
Use this medication on the eye that requires usually 1 or 2 times a day as directed by your doctor, depending on the brand of eye drops you are using.
Wash your hands before each use. To prevent contamination, do not touch the end of the package or avoid touching eyes or other surfaces. The preservatives in this product can be absorbed by contact lenses. If you use contact lenses, remove them first before using this medicine and wait for at least 10 minutes after use.
Tilt your head back, look up and pull the eye bags down. Lift the drop over the eye and give the number of drops according to the instructions. Look down and slowly close your eyes for 1-2 minutes. Place 1 finger on the inner corner of the eye near the nose and press gently. This will prevent the medication from leaving the eye. Try not to blink or rub your eyes.
Do not wash the eye drops. Put back the cap after use.
Use this drug regularly to get optimal benefits. To help you remember, use this medication at the same time every day. Do not stop using this medication before consulting a doctor.
Wait at least 5 minutes between using this medication and any eye drops (drops or ointments) you may be using. Use eye drops before eye ointment to allow the eye drops to enter the eye.
Tell your doctor if your condition does not improve or if it gets worse.
How to store Olopatadine?
This medication is best stored at room temperature, away from direct light and damp places. Don't keep it in the bathroom. Don't freeze it. Other brands of this drug may have different storage rules. Observe the storage instructions on the product package or ask your pharmacist. Keep all medicines away from children and pets.
Do not flush medicines down the toilet or down the drain unless instructed to do so. Discard this product when it has expired or when it is no longer needed. Consult your pharmacist or local waste disposal company about how to safely dispose of your product.

What is the Olopatadine dosage for adults?
- 0.1% ophthalmic solution: Place 1 drop in each eye 2 times a day, within 6-8 hours.
- 0.2% ophthalmic solution: Place 2 drops in each eye once a day.
What is the dosage of Olopatadine for children?
- 2 years and younger: There is no prescribed dosage for this drug for children younger than 2 years.
- 3-18 years: 0.1% ophthalmic solution: Place 1 drop in each eye 2 times a day at a distance of 6-8 hours.
- 0.2% ophthalmic solution: Place 2 drops in each eye once a day.

Olopatadine is available in the following dosages:
- Liquids, eye drops: 0.1%, 0.2%

Side effects
What side effects may occur due to Olopatadine?
Seek immediate medical help if you experience any of the following signs of an allergic reaction: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Stop using olopatadine immediately if you experience redness, swelling, soreness, drainage, crusting or other irritation while using the eye drops.
Less serious side effects can include:
- Pain, irritation, itching, redness, mild dryness of the eyes
- Blurred vision
- Feeling something in the eye
- Swollen eyelids
- Nasal congestion or runny nose, cough, sore throat
- Weakness
- Back pain
- Headache
- Unusual or unpleasant taste in the mouth.
Not everyone experiences the following side effects. There may be some side effects not listed above. If you have concerns about certain side effects, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Precautions & Warnings
What should be known before using Olopatadine?
Before using olopatadine,
- Tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to olopatadine, benzalkonium chloride or any other medication.
- Tell your doctor and pharmacist what prescription or nonprescription medicines, vitamins, supplements and herbal products.
- Tell your doctor if you are or plan to become pregnant or are breastfeeding. If you become pregnant while using olopatadine, call your doctor.
- You shouldn't wear contact lenses if your eyes are red. If your eyes are not red and you wear contact lenses, you should know that olopatadine contains benzalkonium chloride which can be absorbed by contact lenses. Remove contact lenses before using olopatadine and replace contact lenses after 10 minutes later.
Is Olopatadine safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women?
There are no adequate studies regarding the risks of using this drug in pregnant or breastfeeding women. Always consult your doctor to weigh the potential benefits and risks before using this medication. This drug is included in the risk of pregnancy category C according to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
