When you wake up and look in the mirror, there will definitely be dry mucus in the corners of your eyes. This dry mucus is also called dengen belek. This is normal because during sleep the eyes do not blink so that natural mucus will collect in the corner of the eye. However, more mucus can be produced, which can make the eyes stick to the eyes throughout the day. What are the causes?

Various conditions that cause the eye rub

Mucus is produced at the same time as tears. When the eye is irritated, mucus can be produced more than usual, making your eyes tighten. Some of the conditions that cause the eyes to become sore, include:

1. Conjunctivitis

Your eyelids are covered by a membrane called the conjunctiva. This membrane is full of blood vessels that are very small in size. When dirt or foreign matter gets into the eye and irritates the membrane, the white of the eye may turn red. This condition is also known as conjuncivitis or pink eye.

Red eyes make greenish mucus out more, which makes it easier for you to rub. Especially when you wake up, dry mucus can make it difficult to open your eyes. Apart from being slimy, the eyes become swollen, itchy, watery, and feels sore.

2. Dry eyes

Tears contain four components, namely water, mucus, oil, and antibodies. If the tear glands are affected, the tear production process can be hampered. As a result, the eyes can dry out due to lack of fluids.

This dry eye condition stimulates the nerves to produce "spare tears". Unfortunately, these tears do not have the same component, namely they contain more mucus. This condition causes the eyes to tire easily, tire quickly and is sensitive to light, and causes a sensation like winking.

3. Blockage of the tear ducts

The tears produced by the tear glands pass through the tear ducts. Well, this channel can be connected to the nose and throat area.

If these ducts become blocked due to infection, injury, or damage, tears cannot flow. This condition can cause swelling of the corners of the eyes, wrinkled eyelids, red eyes and mucus.

4. Corneal ulcers

The cornea is the clear layer that lines the pupil as well as the iris. Although rare, bacterial infections and chronic dry eye can cause corneal ulcers. Ulcers are purulent sores that are difficult to heal.

Symptoms that may occur are red eyes accompanied by mucus or pus discharge, swollen and painful eyelids, blurred vision and pain when seeing bright light.
