Uses
What medicine is Glyxambi?
Glyxambi is an oral drug that helps control blood sugar in adult patients with type two diabetes. Its use, balanced with a proper diet and exercise program, can help diabetes patients avoid kidney damage, blindness, nerve problems, amputations, and problems with sexual function. Glyxambi is not used for treatment in patients with type one diabetes.
Glyxambi is a drug consisting of a combination of empagliflozin and linagliptin. Both of these combinations can also reduce the risk of death from heart attack, stroke, or heart failure due to heart disease.
Empagliflozin in Glyxambi works by helping the kidneys remove glucose. In other words, the re-absorption by the kidneys leaves sugar to be excreted out of the body along with urine. Meanwhile, linagliptin works by increasing the production of incretin in the body which plays a role in insulin release, especially after eating. The combination of the two also lowers the amount of sugar your liver produces.
