What is Alfentanil used for?

Alfentanil is a narcotic drug that is generally used before and / or during surgery.

What are the rules for using Alfentanil?

This medication is given by a vein (slow IV injection or continuous infusion) as directed by your doctor. Alfentanil should be used only in hospital or clinical settings that have appropriate monitoring and supporting equipment. The patient's breathing (oxygen saturation), blood pressure, and heart rate / rhythm (EKG) should be monitored while this medicine is being used and during the recovery period. Dosage is based on the patient's medical condition and response to medication. If you have questions about mixing, liquids or administering this drug, consult your pharmacist. Before use, the liquid must be checked, whether it contains particles or changes in color. If there is, then the liquid must be discarded.

How do you save Alfentanil?

Store at room temperature, away from direct light and damp places. Don't keep it in the bathroom. Don't freeze it. Other brands of this drug may have different storage rules. What should be considered before using Alfentanil?

Before receiving Alfentanil

• Tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to alfentanil, morphine, codeine (or drugs containing codeine such as Tylenol with Codeine), hydrocodone (eg Vicodin), hydromorphone (eg Dilaudid), oxycodone (eg Percocet), oxymorphone (Numorphan) , or other drugs.
• Tell your doctor and pharmacist about any prescription or nonprescription drugs you are taking, especially antidepressants, sedatives, sleeping pills, sedatives, and vitamins.
• Tell your doctor if you have or have ever had kidney, liver, heart, or thyroid disease. seizures; asthma; bronchitis; or other respiratory disease.
• Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding. If you become pregnant while receiving Alfentanil, contact your doctor.
• You should know that this drug may make you drowsy. Do not drive a car or operate machinery until you know how this drug affects you.

Side effects

What are the possible side effects of Alfentanil?

Alfentanil can cause side effects. Tell your doctor if any of the following side effects get worse and don't go away:

• Dry mouth
• Difficulty urinating
• Sweating

What is the dosage of Alfentanil for adults?

General anesthesia

Adult: Spontaneous respiration: Initial dose up to 500 mcg Inj within 30 seconds with an additional dose of 250 mcg. Assisted ventilation: 30-50 mcg / kg with an additional dose of 15 mcg / kg; alternatively, an initial dose of 50-100 mcg / kg in infusion for 10 minutes or via bolus injection followed by infusion at a rate of 0.5-1 mcg / kg / min as maintenance. What should I do if I forget to take medicine or forget to take medicine?
