A sign of pregnancy that is bothersome but actually good for the health of both the mother and the fetus
An obstetrician and author of The Mommy Docs' Ultimate Guide to Pregnancy and Birth, dr. Yvonne Bohn told Parents that some signs of pregnancy in women actually provide good benefits for both the mother and the fetus in the womb. In general, signs of pregnancy that appear indicate that your pregnancy is developing and in good health.
Well, here are four signs of pregnancy that have turned out to be beneficial for you and your fetus, including:
1. Morning sickness
Morning sickness is one of the most recognizable signs of pregnancy. Usually, this is characterized by nausea and vomiting that occurs in the first trimester.
Even though it feels quite disturbing, morning sickness turns out to have a number of benefits for pregnant women and the fetus. When pregnant women are nauseous and vomiting, this indicates that their body is experiencing an increase in the gonadotropin hormone (hCG) which functions to ensure that their pregnancy is developing properly.
In addition, a recent study revealed that expectant mothers are experiencing morning sickness tend to be at lower risk of miscarriage or preterm delivery. In fact, experts found that morning sickness can make the future baby smarter and less likely to be born defects.
2. Pink or brownish blood spots
The appearance of blood spots when you are not menstruating can sometimes make you anxious. However, if the spotting occurs 10 to 14 days after the egg is fertilized, this is referred to as implantation bleeding which is a sign of pregnancy.
Pregnancy occurs when a fertilized egg (embryo) attaches to the uterine wall. When the embryo tries to stick to the uterine wall, it erodes the lining of the uterine wall resulting in small, pink or brownish bleeding. Well, this condition is often mistaken for menstruation.
So, you don't need to worry if you find pink or brown blood spots. Usually, this is a sign that your pregnancy is moving towards 4 to 6 weeks.
3. Enlarged breasts and feel pain
One easy sign of pregnancy is breast swelling and pain - even to the touch. Indeed, this is quite annoying and causes discomfort. However, expectant mothers need not worry. This is actually good for your pregnancy, you know!
The reason is, enlarged breasts are a sign of increased levels of estrogen and progesterone, two hormones needed for pregnancy. Increased levels of these hormones are actually a sign that your fetus is developing well.
4. Leucorrhoea increases
If you are pregnant and experiencing a lot of vaginal discharge, then you are not alone. Many pregnant women find clear, odorless discharge during pregnancy.
The appearance of vaginal discharge during pregnancy is generally caused by the effect of increasing the hormone estrogen in the body. The hormone estrogen makes the cells in the vaginal wall thicken to support pregnancy and childbirth. Well, this is what causes the discharge of vaginal discharge during pregnancy.
Apart from being a sign of a healthy pregnancy, increased vaginal discharge is actually useful for helping clean the vagina. In fact, it also serves to prevent infection-causing bacteria from entering the uterus.
