What is terbutaline for?
Terbutaline is a drug commonly used to treat wheezing (wheezing) and shortness of breath caused by respiratory problems, such as asthma, chronic lung disease, bronchitis, and emphysema. What is the dose of terbutaline for adults?
Usual dosage for adults with asthma (treatment therapy)
Tablets: 5mg taken three times a day at 6 hour intervals, while you are awake and active. The dosage may be reduced to 2.5mg / dose if side effects are visible. Don't exceed 15mg within 24 hours.
Inhaler: 2 inhalations with a 60 second interval between inhalations, every 4 - 6 hours. Use should not be repeated for more than 6 hours.
Typical dosage for adults experiencing preterm birth
Tablets: 2.5 - 7.5 mg taken every 6 hours. Treatment should continue within 36 to 37 weeks of gestation.
Continuous intravenous injection: 10 - 25mcg / min. Treatment must be continued until past birth. The maximum dose is 80mcg / min.
Subcutaneous injection: 0.25mg every 6 hours. Subcutaneous therapy should be continued beyond delivery.
