Various types of bacteria and fungi live and grow on your skin. Most of them are harmless, but they can also breed wild which can eventually cause disease. Although most yeast infections appear in the vagina, they can also appear in other parts of the body. So, where? Check out the explanation in this article.
The part of the body most often affected by fungal infections
1. Feet
The feet are one part of the body that is susceptible to fungal infection. The reason is, this one part of the body is always in contact with various environmental surfaces at any time. In medical terms, a fungal infection that attacks the feet is called tinea pedis or athlete's foot (athlete's foot). For Indonesians, this condition is better known as water fleas.
A typical symptom of water fleas is the presence of fluid-filled resilience that generally appears between the toes. In addition, water fleas also cause itching, burning, dry or peeling skin, and a red rash.
If you scratch or touch an infected area, the infection can spread to your hands. It can also infect your nails. When the infection has attacked the nail, it will be more difficult to treat because the nails are resistant to medicinal substances. That's why treating this infection completely and preventing its recurrence is so important.
2. Mouth
Oral yeast infections are usually caused by the fungus candida albicans. This fungus is already in the mouth, digestive tract, and skin, it's just a very small amount. Unfortunately, certain diseases or drugs such as corticosteroids or antibiotics can upset the balance of fungi and bacteria causing the fungus to multiply uncontrollably. Well, this is what causes yeast infection.
Yeast infection in the mouth is characterized by the presence of white lesions or patches in the mouth areas such as the tongue, throat, and walls of the mouth. Not only that, but the fungus in the mouth can also appear on the tonsils, roof of the mouth, gums, and even the back of the throat. This infection can be painful and may bleed if you rub your teeth, for example, when you brush your teeth.
Oral yeast infection most commonly affects babies. Even so, this infection can also affect anyone. Especially those who are taking inhalas corticosteroid drugs (asthma medication), antibiotics, and those who have a low immune system.
3. Underarms
In the medical world, axillary yeast infection is called intertrigo. Intertrigo usually appears on areas of the skin that have folds, such as the armpits, groin area, and under the breasts or abdomen.
Intertrigo is an inflammation of the skin that can be caused and exacerbated by many factors. These include humidity, hot weather, lack of air circulation in the armpits (for example, wearing clothes that are too tight on the arms), to friction between the skin folds.
Underarm yeast infections are more common in hot weather when the air feels hotter and humid, so sweat collects in the skin folds. Well, this creates an ideal environment for bacteria and fungi to grow rapidly.
4. Breast
If you are breastfeeding and feel itching around the breasts, it could be a yeast infection. The reason is, fungal infections can occur and develop in the mother's breast. The reason is the uncontrolled growth of the candida fungus.
Yeast infection in the breast can occur because the breastfeeding process creates the perfect environment for yeast to develop in the breast. Warm, humid, and sweet conditions make the breasts the most preferred location for fungi to thrive.
5. Groin
The groin is the best place for the fungus to breed. In the medical world, the fungus that develops in the groin is known as tinea cruris. Tinea cruris is a skin disease caused by a fungus that grows in the groin around the groin, anus, buttocks, and sometimes to the lower abdomen.
This infection occurs because you often wear wet and damp underwear. In addition, sharing towels with an infected person and rarely showering can also increase your infection.
6. The penis
Not only in the vagina, but also yeast infection can attack a man's penis. Even though it is rare, you should never underestimate this one infection. Yeast infection in the penis can occur when a man tends to have unsafe sex (without a condom) and does not keep his penis clean. Like the vagina, the penis which is often in a humid condition also has a high potential of causing yeast infection.
