One of the phases that can provide anxiety for women is menopause. The menopause phase itself is a sign for women when they are getting old and will experience a variety of hormonal changes that make the body uncomfortable, such as fluctuating emotions, vaginal dryness, hot flashes, or even sweating profusely at night. But calm down. Various studies report that it is actually easy for you to relieve these troublesome menopause symptoms. One of them is by eating more soybeans, for example tempeh, tofu, edamame, or soy milk. Why is that?
The content of phytoestrogens in soy can help relieve menopausal symptoms
A joint research team from Erasmus University Medical Center in the Netherlands and Cambridge University in the UK conducted a study involving 6,653 women, to find out whether natural ingredients such as food or herbal plants could have a major influence on the menopause phase. About 40 to 50 percent of women who participated in the study admitted that these natural ingredients can relieve menopause symptoms in women.
One type of food or drink that is quite in demand by women to relieve menopause symptoms is soy-based foods. Soybeans are known to contain phytoestrogens, natural chemical compounds that have a similar function to the female hormone estrogen.
The phytoestrogens in soybeans are reported to be able to overcome hot flashes (sensation of heat in the body) and vaginal dryness, the two things most commonly experienced by most women during menopause. Unfortunately, researchers found that soy was not able to reduce the amount of sweat that came out at night.
Fortunately, soy foods tend to be very easy to find in Indonesia. Not only tempeh or tofu, some foods or drinks made from soy ingredients such as soybean juice and red clover (red clover) is also just as good at helping relieve menopausal symptoms.
Soy-based foods also contain isoflavones, which are good for menopausal women
Hormone therapy was once thought to be a good idea to reduce the pain that menopause may experience. However, such medical treatment does increase the risk of breast cancer and cardiovascular disease.
Now about 40 percent to 50 percent of women in Western countries use plant-based therapies and drugs to relieve menopausal symptoms. Soy-based foods such as tofu, miso, tempeh and edamame are known to contain lots of isoflavones, which are effective in relieving menopausal symptoms.
In Western countries, very few people every day consume foods that are high in isoflavones, they only consume about 2 milligrams per day. Meanwhile, in Asian countries, the average consumption is 25-50 milligrams. To relieve menopause symptoms, a dose of between 10-100 milligrams of isoflavones per day is required.
Drinking two glasses of soy milk can also relieve the effects of menopause, such as flushing on the face and always feeling hot. Those who consume 1-2 servings of soy every day will reduce cholesterol problems, osteoporosis, dementia, and breast cancer.
